Firstly - remember the Rand is worth almost the same as Zim dollar to the outside (first world) countries... 50k pounds a year equates to R800k!

Secondly - at the price you're paying for those "imported" skills - you could have given 2-4 people decent jobs... Sorry let me re-phrase:
you could have given 2-4 South Africans and their families a decent life!

On another note: 100MB uncapped?? Sounds like heaven!!!!

I've just had a call from a US agent offering me work in the power industry in SA at a little more than 50K pounds - I'm abroad doing well and not interested.
Remember that the 50K GBP would be the basic salary which excludes business class tickets every four to six months, 15~20 Local area allowance, about 7% overseas allowance, overtime and about 30 GBP/day per diem.
That company has 90 engineers on contract at various power plants in SA right now and they're desperately looking for more.

If anyone with power plant experience is interested PM me and I'll put you in touch with this company.

I had a call from a guy in ESKOM last week about the possible offer of a job out there. I believe you have worked in South Africa in the past - what would be your thoughts on someone going out there for say a 3 year contract ?

Eishkom are getting around the AA/BEE by not taking on white employees, but hiring them in from international brokers at a hefty cost to us.

The press should get onto this and expose it.

Not old enough, but I heard stories. And considering at the height of Apartheid it was still only R5 = £1.

I'm not that old either, used to use the £ before switching.
Rand was worth more thatn the Dollar once.
