The Last Panthers starts with a jewellery heist which sets into motion a chain of events that takes viewers on a journey all over Europe.

The story starts with a jewellery heist on the French Riviera, which at first has all the signs of being the work of the infamous ‘Pink Panthers’ gang from ex-Yugoslavia. But something goes wrong and sets into motion a powerful story that spans across the whole of Europe. What starts with diamonds, leads to guns and finally to high-finance and the corridors of power. And so begins a story which sends shockwaves forward to an intrigue involving EU ministers and the city of London and backwards to the darker days of massacres in Bosnia in 1995.

Series Overview

River sounds interesting.

It has a bit of Scandinavian thrown in.

Jackie “Stevie” Stevenson and John River of River (BBC1) are certainly different. She’s young, fun and worldly, likes holidays and singing along to 70s disco classics in the car (love that Tina Charles scene, both of them and his lonely karaoke moment later). He’s a bookish Beatles man and a workaholic, troubled and world-weary.

And Swedish! Hey, that’s one way of getting a bit of Scandinavian noir into something: getting an actual lugubrious Scandinavian – the lovely Stellan Skarsgård – and plonking him right in the centre, the title character.

“Stevie” is played by Nicola Walker. Also lovely, but confusing as she’s also a cop in Unforgotten, which just started on ITV. And I was already muddling that with From Darkness (unearthing of bones and running from the past with Anne-Marie Duff) on BBC1. There’s so much TV police work kicking off at the moment that I need to put up some of those boards detectives stick stuff to in my living room to keep the cases separate in my head.

Tom Bateman (Da Vinci’s Demons, The Tunnel), Richard E Grant (Downton Abbey, Dr Who) and Natalie Gumede (Coronation Street, Death In Paradise) join forces to star in Jekyll and Hyde, a brand new, ten-part action adventure drama, to be dramatised by ITV Studios.

From an idea conceived by acclaimed novelist Charlie Higson, the action and fantasy series has been inspired by The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Higson has written and will executive produce the drama which exudes mystery, fantasy, horror and sci-fi.

Set in 1930’s London at a time of Hollywood glamour, aerodynamic cars and monster movies, the drama will pay homage to the Stevenson novel, and focus on the young, attractive, troubled hero, Robert Jekyll, the grandson of the original doctor.

At the heart of the drama is Robert Jekyll’s quest to discover his real identity, his true family history and the nature of his ‘curse’. Jekyll transforms into Hyde in moments of extreme anger, stress and when his or the lives of others are threatened.

Hinterland Season 2 is excellent.

Broadcast in a mix of Welsh and English, perfect subs available for the Welsh dialogue.

Interesting to listen to, the Welsh bears no resemblance to English at all.

Welsh is Celtic/Gaelic and English is Roman, so they're from completely different roots.

Well Welsh is Celtic , and Gaelic is still spoken by about 50,000 Scots but it is odd that these languages are so geographically close but bear no resemblance to each other.

Listening to the Celtic it seems it would be particularly difficult to learn.
 
Finished Season 2 of Hinterland - bring on the next season.

For those who plan to watch Season 2, make sure you watch the full-length special which comes between season 1 and season 2, otherwise you will find the second season a bit confusing.
