Emily Watson to Star in BBC Psychological Thriller 'Apple Tree Yard'
In the show, based on Louise Doughty's novel, the actress will play opposite Ben Chaplin in a role she calls "grown-up, steamy and of queasy moral complexity."

Emily Watson will star in the BBC's four-part adaptation of Louise Doughty’s best-selling novel Apple Tree Yard.

In the psychological thriller, adapted by Amanda Coe, Watson will portray protagonist Yvonne Carmichael, while Ben Chaplin (Cinderella) will play Mark Costley.

Mark Bonnar (Catastrophe, Line of Duty), Adeel Akhtar (River), Lydia Leonard (Life in Squares), Frances Tomelty (Unforgotten) and Rhashan Stone (Strike Back) also will be part of the cast.

Made by Endemol Shine Group's Kudos, Apple Tree Yard will air on flagship channel BBC One. The U.K. public broadcaster called the show "a provocative, audacious thriller that puts women’s lives at the heart of a gripping, insightful story about the values we live by and the choices we make."

The show focuses on Carmichael (Watson), a married woman with two grown-up children who lives a conventional suburban life until her world spirals into chaos, when a chance encounter leads to a passionate affair with a charismatic stranger (Chaplin). "Despite all her careful plans to keep her home life and career safe and separate from her affair, fantasy and reality soon begin to overlap and everything she values is put at risk, as a life-changing act of violence leads to a Crown Court trial," according to a show description.

Watson said about the BBC role: "I am both relishing and daunted by the prospect of taking on this role; it’s grown-up, steamy and of queasy moral complexity.”

Lucy Richer, executive producer for the BBC, said: "Louise Doughty’s best-seller Apple Tree Yard is a book that is impossible to put down. We are thrilled to have a fantastic cast led by Emily Watson to bring this story to life on BBC One in Amanda Coe’s breath-taking adaptation of this absorbing and emotional thriller."

Added Manda Levin, executive producer, Kudos: "The role of Yvonne Carmichael is a thrilling psychological roller coaster that requires an actress to traverse an incredible range of emotional states. Wherever Emily Watson has to go in her work, even the darkest places, exploring the most hidden parts of ourselves, she always takes us with her, because she brings truth, spirit and heart to every character she plays."

Filming for the four-part hourlong series will start later this month. FremantleMedia International is distributing it.

The book has sold more than a quarter of a million copies in the U.K. and has been translated into 26 languages.

Some awesome news :D

Returning in 2016.

Cold Feet

Forget The X-Files, the title of Most Unexpected TV Revival 2016 has to go to Cold Feet, with ITV warming its rom-com back up after 13 years.

The now middle-aged cast will return to filming in February, with the apparent exception of Helen Baxendale, whose Rachel was killed off in the final series.

That's unless the scriptwriters take up John Thomson on his idea of employing Dexter-style visions to have Adam's beloved appear from beyond the grave…

The Missing

Following up the most depressing end to a series of television ever, year two of The Missing will leave a bearded James Nesbitt stranded in Russia to chart a new investigation led by charismatic French copper Baptiste (Tchéky Karyo).

While poor little Oliver Hughes was never returned to his loving parents, this new run will apparently focus on what happens when a missing person comes back to their family after years apart - could the resulting trauma be worse than not knowing?

More cheery antics then, but you can expect to end up all hooked all over again as writing duo Harry and Jack Williams spin a new tale of deceit, devastation and loss.

The Fall

Spector lives! Yes, Jamie Dornan's disturbingly attractive serial killer is back one last time, with the third and final series of The Fall set to bring his reign of terror to an end.

Gillian Anderson's icy yet alluring Stella Gibson will find herself fighting to save her nemesis after he was felled by a rogue gunman - and fans of Colin Morgan's dishy DS Tom Anderson can rest assured that he too survived the attack that closed last series.

The new episodes will land in late 2016, with series creator Allan Cubitt describing this run as "the third instalment of Spector and Gibson's macabre, obsessive dance of death". Blimey.

Also Happy Valley

Watched first episode of Stan Lee's Lucky Man. Will give it a go. James Nesbitt is a busy man.

What? For me this one's right up there with The Fall (expect for the hot leading lady).

I 'm not good with menacing characters - and the Fall dude was menacing.

Both this and Happy Valley are first class but I need to be i the right space to watch them ;)

Den som dræber is the Nordic equivalent - I really want to watch more but...

Enjoyed the US version. Reminds me I have Bluray rip with Eng DVDRip subs. Must see if I can sync them still. Was actually going to do it yesterday.

Don't think it will be my cup of tea, but someone may enjoy it.

Great that it's coming back although I didn't think there was room for a continuation.

That said I would watch The Kardashians if Sofie Gråbøl was in it.
