Broadband 2.0

Neotel has indicated that fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) is in its broadband roadmap, and that this technology is most suitable to provide consumers with true broadband services.

mmmmmmmmm pie.

Neotel makes all the right noises, but I'm yet to see something tangible. Their initial offering is ok for the average person, but so far there is nothing for the more tech savvy user.

FTTH in 2063.

I wish they would just stop talking. I would love to be surpirsed by a article stating a new product with a cost that will satisfy the normal broadband user. Yes, i know, "normal" people dont need the internet we want. Why? Because they dont know better! Let actual broadband become the norm and there wont be such thing as "average users" anymore. There will only be happy and satisfied users! And stop charging a buttload of cash for stupid crap! Give us broadband in the true sense (only in this internet void do you have to classify what you mean by broadband) at a fair price and stop talking about it!

I reckon 2012 - They've pretty much laid fibre down link the whole country.
PeterCH made mention of the digging up roads through resedential areas in Blaauwberg. Hopefully thats set aside as a trial area.

They'll need Seacom to land then to have a look at which areas they could penetrate.

Seacom is set to be Neotel's trump card, once they've got access, we hope to see data rates slashed and FTTH. Seacom 2009, FTTH in a few 100day months - maybe even by 2011 :p

When Neotel launched its fixed wireless voice and data services in April 2008, this added a new dimension of competition in the broadband internet market, due to the attractively prices data packages, including those for seriously data-intensive users.

LOL? Wasn't there another article just recently where Neotel lamented the slow uptake of their services, blaming (this week) number portability?

Juice

Neotel said recently that they have fibre to the curb. I think that is for businesses only though.

IIRC thats true.

Cape Town metro has been lined with Fibre or is meant to be lined with it running past all buildings.

They're at least ready for when they hope to have an inlfux of enterprise clients and will be ready to service them at a "moments notice".
In theory

They said that they're dropping the fibre infront of every building, whether they have clientele there or not.

Hope the same will one day happen for the man on the street :)

maybe neotel should first focus on getting some coverage to areas bigger than a high school...

U guys cant expect them to pull of a miricle overnight. You dont just cover a whole country... Unfortunatly we have to wait.
