Broadband Infraco to launch within next three months

Government institutions service provider or general public/ISP's as well?
 
anything with a government tag is due for fraud, government bailout and incompetence. watch this space.....
 
Broadband Infraco was established in 2006 by the Department of Public Enterprises as an intervention to “rapidly normalise telecommunications market efficiency and address the cost of broadband to other industry players and end users, by having infrastructure in the national backbone and international connectivity at reduced prices.”

Name one instance where anything government-related worked out to be more efficient/reliable/cost-effective than private enterprise. I know of none. This is going to be a huge fail.
 
I don't see the point in complaining or insulting people who are trying to improve broadband in South Africa??? Maybe I am missing something here... but I am a taxpayer... I am glad that the government has used some of my tax money to get this thing off the ground. It seems to be running well thus far and there have been no reports of irregularities (yet). So why not wait and see if they can deliver something of use to us... these things don't happen overnight... it takes time and money to lay fibre. I'm actually glad they did not give this to Neotel since Neotel has turned out to be as efficient as a bullet train with an anchor. :D

But as usual you get the pathetic idiots who have never achieved a damn thing in their lives who come on here with "yawn" and "imminent". How much fibre have you guys laid in South Africa? When are you planning on launching your own cheap and competitive service provider? Bunch of morons. :mad: It's dumb consumers like you who give the rest of us a bad name. Please shut your ignorant mouths and learn to have a little bit of respect and patience for once. Your mother is busy... she can't come and suckle you right now.

Hooray, now the speed and efficiency of operation that governments are so well-known for, can finally be brought to network services in SA! Just what we need to liven up this market!

And it has only taken them this long to ... well, nothing yet, but they have announced that one of these days, hopefully this year, they'll be able to launch a service running off infrastructure that had already been built years ago. No private company could ever move THAT fast!

I for one share the same pessimism with the rest of the folk. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me... therefore I do not allow empty promises to invade my space until I see results.

I think 99.99% of the IBIWISI comments on these forums for every single service promised is valid, if a company really was interested in creating interest they would not make another IBIWISI comment valid, they would show results and make us genuinely surprised. We are stereotypical because it is just so difficult to show any more faith in this industry, doesn't matter who's fault it is there is always some excuse of why something isn't launching on time or why it wasn't as affordable as promised etc...

Dude this fibre was laid years ago, by Eskom and Transnet, who made a dud investment when they thought government was planning to liberalise the market, and then it didn't. This fibre is so old by now it's rusting and covered in cobwebs. This thing is ALREADY a major cock-up. It is an already-failed plan, and failed long ago. You are definitely "missing something" here, big-time, but you are so bilndly pro-government that I don't even know where to start. But if you love government-provisioned services so much, you're welcome to keep "waiting and seeing" what trillions in taxpayer money might eventually get you, while other countries (even 3rd-world ones these days) continue to rocket past SA, leaving us in the dust "waiting and seeing". It's revolting and disgusting that they've taken so long to even just reach an announcement that they might launch one of these days. As I recall, I was in nappies still when Infraco was first announced, and that was years already after Eskom and Transnet were forced to abandon their multi-billion investment thanks to the government you're saying is wonderful. I want my tax money back, thank you, this is a disaster. Probably the only reason they're announcing something now is that the private sector is finally installing fibre all over the show, and suddenly they're waking up to the fact that there will be competition when they launch. In other words, the free market STARTED installing fiber networks long after Infraco started, and will FINISH long before Infraco launches (off infrastructure that they just took). It's so ridiculous that most would consider it a comedy show.

This is why I left out .01% :D Unfortunately I still pay the same for my Telkom line and actually pay more on Internet monthly overall for the uncapped 384 (obviously getting more gigs)...so it hasn't really helped me much though. But that is Telscums fault :(
