Broadband over Power Lines gets a kick-start

The thought of entrusting my broadband access to eskom after the current debacle makes the mind boggle. :(

The though of the SNO backbone running on Eskom looks increasingly worrisome too.

Yup...It gets more confusing and frustrating, if it wasn't for so many surges and power cuts I think I would go that route...

BPL info

I just wanna know if there have been any new developments in this BPL
thing. Any way to apply for this service, coz Telkom has proved again that
only in South Africa u can get NO service in 16 official languages...

Stupid question - with the recent power cuts, does the power have to be runing through the cable to make it work?
If your power is off, how are you going to USE it anyway even if it does work?! :)

Exactly!

Then, like it was said before, BPL and electricity run on different frequencies. Saying that if the power fails, then BPL is unavailable is the same as saying if iBurst goes down, so will Sentech (a stupid analogy, but it drives home the concept of different frequencies).
They share a common medium, but the only thing that will take both down at once, is probably your circuit breaker, or someone cutting the power lines to steal them :p
