Broadband over Powerlines

Hmm... Eskom has been using this for their network between office buildings (ie JHB-Pta-CTN) for over 5 years....

Mmmm... This has been around for a while... Hasnt it been decided not to even get our hopes up about this?

Besides Eskom cant even handle electricity... What to say about broadband...

The radio frequency interference is not the only problem. The need for expensive repeaters every kilometer or so also kinda kills the project. Do you guys remember when we first started hearing about this? Wasn't it like 1998 or 1999... ten years ago?

ja, I would say it is a non-starter.

On a slightly different topic. Does anyone use the network over powerline devices?

Those network devices which u plug into your wall socket to use the electric circuit in your house to create a usable network..

I'm thinking of getting those to replace the wifi network i have running in my house

But still they manage to only use this for both their intranet and phone lines (their PABX systems run across the electricity lines)

We once did an installation at a client. Saved us alot of work. Laying cables 50m from one building to another isnt my way of spending a day.

The client haven't come back yet so its prob working ok. The nice thing is that its "plug and play". Setup is 5min max. Just abit expensive and the power have to go through one powerbox. The nice thing is that if you move the pc from one room to another its very easy.

the only thing that changed is the media spin, otherwise the same old noise

OY this guy has not been reading for years it seems.. another one of the "imminents"

What ever happened to that car that runs on electricity supposedly locally produced? Was that also a pipe dream thanks to NCA and/or Eskom?
