That petrol price comparison is depressing.....

It is but look at the price of crude, back in 2002 it was $22.81 on average.

It's now $112.45

I would've been ecstatic....if I had 2,000 barrels of Brent crude in my garage.


Seeing that I don't though, and only feel the effect that the fuel price (as well as polymers) have on my back pocket, I am therefore, rightly, depressed.

Same would apply to interest rate hikes. Good if you have gazillions in the bank. Bad if you're an armgat like me who lives on credit.

Prices should be inflation adjusted otherwise they're meaningless.

The average increase in petrol is about 12% for past ten years. 6% inflation my ass.

If all you buy is petrol.

It's not even 176%, but actually 276%!!. RPM made a mistake.
Actually increase is 176%, but present petrol price now is 273% of the 2002 price. Sorry for my mathematical interpretation.

A Few Areas are concerning but petrol price is astronmical.

One thing to note is the price increase in Analogue Line Rental, which btw, i DON'T EVEN NEED. It would be even more affordable to the man in the street if this was an additional purchase and not a FORCED Expense, life is allready so DAMN expensive.

I would have also like to have seen how Eskom Electricty Pricing has changed, would've also added another Government Parastatel view on this piece

I think the data prices were high partly due to technology and also international cable.. if i remember correctly sat-3/WACS/SAFE came into usage about 2001/2, Cell-C came on board too(competition), ADSL 2002, and 3G would be launched 2 yrs later. Without the price drop, the increased user usage would not have happen in 2004..

That is indeed very depressing . If one go further back in time .its even worse . Petrol cost only 11c per litre in 1972/3

DSTV is a rip-off. They repeat so many programs for so many months . Its getting very boring service .Yet no competition !!!!
