Broadband prices: 2002 versus 2012

Besides the ADSL, this article makes me sad

@NomNom, while that may be the case ... ever heard of the Big Mac Index ;) ... as McDonald's is everywhere, it is a great determinant of both inflation, and cross border money value.

R20/mb, yyhheeer. i didn't even have a phone back then, lucky me. and i remember a friend who had a wap-enabled 3330 back in high school trying to impress us, it must've cost him

R20/mb, yyhheeer.
And that was the biggest bundle (thus the lowest rate) you could get then, the 10MB bundle.
So the 10MB @ R200 then should be compared to today's 2GB @ R149.

This was also the time when data in Europe cost R200/MB btw, so when Vodacom dropped the first 3G 1GB bundle down to 60c/MB it sent shockwaves through the world and started an international price drop.

True.

So when can we expect more such global shockwaves? :p

At first I thought, what random dates to compare. But it really does show some real progress, and is very interesting.

I would be interesting to also compare an average teachers salary or something in there as well. Just to put things into perspective.

Was inflation taken into account with these values? If not, an inflation-adjusted table should give a better view of the overall value lost/gained.

That petrol price comparison is depressing.....

After winning the lottery on Saturday, the first thing I wanted to do is fill my car with petrol.

Then that dream was shattered as they announced that there had been two lucky jackpot winners.

The average increase in petrol is about 12% for past ten years. 6% inflation my ass.

You can get 1gb for R99. Plus 1gb night owl free... On contract

You can get 2Gb for R149... On contract

Why is a prepaid 1Gb bundle R279? Nearly 3times the price of a contract?
