Browsing doesn't work, ping and telnet does. Why?

Can someone please explain to me why this is so:

Am I missing something?

I also tried restarting and reconnecting.

Edit: Actually, sending an invalid HTTP request in telnet yields a response from the server, but sending a valid one yields a gateway timeout. Surely if I receive the following response when sending an invalid request, that means that I am successfully connecting to the server?

Code:
<HTML>
<HEAD><TITLE>500 Server Error</TITLE></HEAD>
<BODY>
<H1>Server Error</H1>
<H4>
 The following error occurred:<P>
[code=UNRECOGNIZED_REQUEST] The browser is send
ing an invalid request. Contact your system administrator.
</H4>
<HR>
Please contact the administrator.
</BODY>
</HTML>

It's very strange - international is stone dead but a trace to eg amazon.com has no problem completing.

MyWireless - Degraded throughput: 14 April 2006

A failure is currently being experienced on the MyWireless network, which may result in degraded throughput and/or connectivity loss. The matter is being attended to with the highest priority.

yes international dead - phoned them, techs are working on the problem.

same thing here, int down, but yahoo and msn messengers sign in, skype aswell

Sigh...just when I need international, it goes and dies.

Anyone got an answer to the telnet question though? Is it maybe a proxy that is sending that invalid request error, and not google itself?

Another networking question or two :D

All Sentech users connect through a transparent proxy, right?
Since RapidShare tracks usage according to your IP, and the IP it uses is the proxy's IP, then is there any way to avoid going through the transparent proxy so I can actually download something from RapidShare without purchasing an account? And..if I actually do purchase a RapidShare account, will all Sentech users's RapidShare usage count toward my account usage because of the proxy?

I hope I'm making sense :p
