"bruised" tyre, need replacing?

That's crazy.
I remember a few years ago that 16" tyres were expensive because they weren't too common on cars back then. But today they are more common and yet they're still more expensive.
Why should they change? People were paying so much for them so lets leave the prices as they are.

Which is why I doubt Walmart's prices will change when and if they land here..but that's for another thread altogether.

If your rim is "dented" that means it's buckled as well. Best to take it to a pro mag fixer. But if you can live with it, it would seem as if they have balanced out the buckle, then leave it.

16" tyres are expensive nowadays because there are so few of them. That's the way the cookie crumbles, I'm afraid.

Ok well i got the mag to "Mag Doctor". The guy said that the earliest he could "refurbish" the rim was friday and straighten only by today because apparently there was another buckle on the outside face that the machine picked up and i couldnt see, i opted for the refurbish but then today he gave me a call in the morning to say that it was done and that he did me a favour to hurry it up. How long does it take to refurbish a rim? There is new "paint" on the out side facing part or at the very least its flippin clean and shiny, but from what i have heard you have to heat/bake the rim before repairing it. Have i been conned?

What about the back tyre?
If it went through the same pothole you might want to have the rim checked out too. Even if you don't see any damage it would be wise to have it looked at.

How much cheaper is a 17" tyre? Reason I ask I have found the 17" branded wheel for my car on Gumtree for R2k and wondering if I should grab it and "upgrade" to 17" if the tyres are so much cheaper.

Why is everyone so worried about being conned?????

Has this motoring world become such a terrible place that nothing can be taken at face value any more??

Get real guys, and grow some bloody balls. If you are concerned about being conned every time you walk into some motor dealership, sell the bloody car and start walking FFS.

I was simply putting 2 and 2 together based on the knowledge i have, whether its right or wrong. You cant say you wouldnt be a bit suspect if someone told you that the car you wanted was on a ship in the atlantic, then magically its at the dealer the next day. What did it do, hop on a plane in the middle of the ocean and went through customs like an ANC VIP? Just isnt feasible at all in this plane of existence. Secondly sample a random group of people in at least the 100's and check how many of them have a negative view on the Motor industry and its associates where money is involved (product purchase or service rendered), i wouldnt be surprised if the resulting stats portrayed a negative view in the majority, and lastly when i go home in Hong Kong i dont have a bloody car since the public transport is efficient and cost effective and walking doesnt include having to get all jittery in case someone wants to mug you and/or otherwise since everybody else in the majority walks including the police, owning a personal passenger car is simply more of a status symbol than practicality, a parking bay alone costs 50-100k a year to RENT (optional extra to the normal apartment rental/owning).

However, if you could simply set the record straight then i would rectify my views and if it proves my assumptions false i would refer everyone to mag doctor for rim repairs. But yes, it would seem that public opinion sees the motoring world as a terrible place, just look at all the other threads about people asking about being conned from wheel alignments and vehicle service to everything else in this forum alone. Apparently second hand car salesman are notoriously slippery, maybe its a left over side effect from the americans from the nineties.

Personally cant wait till EV becomes the norm, then i CAN service my own car and do all the other checks. Electronics FTW (except for tyres and rims of course).

I don't know how a car being on the Atlantic (???) and being delivered sooner than you expected, can have anything to do with a buckled rim, but I see that I am possibly dealing with someone with rather weird logic.

American car salesmen in the nineties????? What the hell are you talking about, or is that as far back as history goes for you?

I repeat, grow a pair of balls and stand up for yourself. This constant "victim" attitude adopted by people when dealing with the motor industry is nothing but pathetic. If you go through life like that, people will be taking advantage of you left right and centre, AND you would be demanding that they did!

What is to stop you actually trying to learn a thing or two NOW, instead of waiting for the arrival of the EV? When that day finally comes, the likelihood of you being able to do anything yourself is highly unlikely anyway! The EV is not simply a PC on wheels, so don't get too excited.

If you empower yourself, so that you DO know something about your mode of transport, you will find that it is not rocket science to learn a thing or two about cars, and that not everyone out there is out to catch you.

The victim will always remain the victim as long as this limp wristed attitude towards the industry is allowed to continue.

If it escaped your attention the first time, I will repeat: GROW SOME BALLS!

Geez, Fazda, is all that hostility really necessary...

Just let us know if there are any other topics you think we should look at from YOUR point of view.

I see that you don't post here very often, so I will tell you why my ire is necessary.

Every day of every week we have yet another self imposed victim too scared to get his bloody car sorted out because he is too damned scared of the big bad wolves in the Motor Industry.

It is time that people actually stood up for themselves and if they believe that they are being badly treated then they should have the guts to stand up and tell whoever it is that they actually have rights, and refuse to be conned, if that is what they think is happening.

Have a look through the threads in this section and you will see a recurring theme emerge: "I've got a problem with my car, but I don't think I should fix it, because my friend's girlfriends grandfather said that he had a problem with XYZ garage in 1972 and they are all a bunch of thugs."

When are we going to start standing up for ourselves for god's sake??!
