Brutal video doing the rounds [Update: suspects arrested!]

Let's look at the facts that we DO have.
1) There are many supporters in the video wearing ANC T-shirts. No other parties are in evidence.
2) The video is tagged as being from May 7th. It also only surfaced shortly after May 7th, so it is not likely to predate that (at least not by very much).
3) The uploader has tagged it as being political violence, that same tag has also appeared on numerous other sites where the video has appeared.
4) We do know that there was election violence on the day according to news reports
5) A woman's body (unidentified) was found in Soweto on Friday.

These facts (as sparse as they are) seem to lend weight to a particular conclusion... for now... Until more evidence comes to light.
I don't see why we should immediately discount that with pure speculation.
Unless you also have some kind of political agenda?

Why did the cameraman avoid everyone's face? He was filming before arrival at the scene so how did he know what was going on?

You can see at least one other person recording in the front of the circle to the right of the person recording this video.

It is clear that the uploader is lying in the title so we're more inclined not to believe anything he/she insinuates.

How do you know that? Instead of jumping to conclusions, why don't we try and track down what really happened using the facts.
I'm sure we can use our sleuthing abilities to apply here.

I only see one person clearly wearing an ANC shirt there. There is another person wearing a yellow shirt with some writing in front but that doesn't look ANC and it looks faded. If it were ANC you'd be able to identify Zuma's face or the large ANC logo in front. The wording is always at the back. There are several yellow shirts in the crowd one of them a sports shirt - none ANC.

There is a girl in school uniform (yellow shirt) - she jumps on top of the victim at one point. So that diminishes the likelihood of this happening on May 7.
 
This is what I propose:

Let's list all the sites where we can find the video... and try and find the date stamps for upload (to see where it was first uploaded and by whom).
We can also then build a timeline of the spread of the story.

Seriously? Kids in townships often wear their school uniforms on non school days. For some of them it's the only decent clothes they have.

I do not claim to definitely know what happened in the video. Yes, I am willing to ask around and see if anyone I know has seen the video and know where and what happened. I know a number of people in the townships so I will ask.

My gripe is that everyone else has taken the video at the title, which is the one clear misleading piece of information about it. We may not know exactly what happened but we can definitely discern clear falsehoods. Many people here are very happy to switch off their thinking when an item of negative news is reported placing blame on the ANC.

Look at the uniform that girl is wearing. It looks recently washed/pressed, doesn't even look like she's been in school yet or it's a Monday.

Also, most of the ANC campaign shirts I've seen have had the bars of text on the back. I can't seem to find any ANC campaign shirts which say VOTE ANC on the back only as in the video.
