Bryanston ADSL problems

Ok so here is the low down...

The MSAN cutover on Dundee Street was postponed to 25/11/2013 due to IMS and Softswitch platform problem.

Well, at least I'm happy that Telkom continues to deliver consistently: Always late, make promises you can't and wont keep and don't bother planning for anything - just shoot off the hip. However never, never be late in collecting the fees for a service you are not providing .

Something new in my neighbourhood (Wilton, north side). For the past several days, although the connection to the exchange remains stable (4Mbps, 15dB noise margin), in the evenings the connectivity gets progressively worse, with dropped packets and spiking latency.
Looks like the old exchange congestion is back...
Wouldn't have anything to do with Telkom giving everyone faster line speeds, now would it?

Saw Telkom techies at the Dundee MSAN this morning. Weren't there by 3pm and speeds are still awful, so probably no progress

Im getting a sync rate of 5024 on my line since this morning. International and local speed test confirms something is happening! getting around 4.4mb/s

After being physically down for two days, my line came up 30 mins ago and my router is now syncing at 10012 kbps WOW!! Did a few quick speedtests (saix.net). Download speeds range between 4 and 6Mbps. I'm too scared to breathe in case it all disappears.
Looks like Telkom have come through and cut over to the MSAN.
Hope everyone else gets this soon
Yippee

My Bryanston east side 706-Xxxx line tests ok on noise margin, but for the past ten days or so, has been dying in the evenings. Massive packet loss, and apps freeze or just give up while waiting for transfers to complete. Logged a fault on Friday, explaining that the problem only occurs after hours. Telkom closed the case same day, before going home time. Stupid, but that's the behaviour you get when you measure people on case time to close. Aargh!
Escalating...

Yup, I go from 8Mbps of download at around 8 in the morning to about 1Mbps around lunchtime and then dies most evenings. I've been escalating the hell out of it (via my ISP, HelloPeter, Twitter and a few other public area) and telkom have come back again and confirmed that it is a congestion problem. Bottom line - no matter how fast your connection is - they will keep running out of bandwidth until they agree to solve the bigger probem. AND it is going to get worse. The faster local links are, the more utilisation, the less bandwidth is available

and they're doing the opposite with me. They have a general fault open since 9 August and as a resul,t won't accept now faults / complaints. When you ask them when they will resolve the general fault, you get told general faults don't have an ETA

Kind Regards

Subject: [WSC #AVR-979-499xxxx]: Telkom line fault 0114632xxx
Hi Joe
I trust you are well:-)
I do apologize for all the inconvenience
However telkom has confirmed that the problem is actually due to congestion, Unfortunately we have no control over this but the fault is open and they have promised to look into it

Does anyone here have any info on the MSAN that's installed on corner of Main and Westminster in Bryanston?

They have been working on it for about 6-8 months now. Unfortunately every time I drive past there, there's only security guards there, or the Telkom guys are just leaving the site. I asked the security guard if he knows anything but he looked at me as if I was from another planet.

My number starts with 0117061xxx and I currently have 4Mbps. This MSAN is literally 100m from where I live. I know my current exchange is located about 100m past this newly installed MSAN on the corner of Main and William Nicol.

I'm hoping that they will switch my line over to the MSAN when it goes live. Can only get 4Mbps at the moment, would love 10 or 20mbps.

Anyone here who knows more about this?

My line isn't syncing, anyone else?

011 463

Nope my sync is good at 10Mbps

Been dead all day. Telkom tech said something wrong with exchange... who knows :/

Hello everyone. I having quite a bit of a problem. My ADSL is set at 10mbps yet I am getting sub 2mbps speeds for the past 2-3 weeks continuously. I have logged faults with telkom and I have requested call outs at least 5 times to no success. I called the call center again and after resetting my port 3 times, the speed would not kick up. Worst of all, my phone line is dead. To check if there was a config prob I logged into the router only to find:

Mode: ADSL_2plus
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 78 61
Attenuation (dB): 460 311
Output Power (dBm): 185 122
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 1888 1031
Rate (Kbps): 1403 1023
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.24 0.24

HEC Errors: 0 0
OCD Errors: 0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 1 0

1888 kbps when im supposed to be getting 10 240 Kbps .Browsing is not enjoyable and I have 76kB/s downloads for drivers and patches. I live in Bryanston. Phone number 011 463 60xx. Please help!

Line problem...

Your router appears to be set correctly for 10 Mbps, but your current line attenuation of 46 dB is too high to support the speed. Worse, the resulting best-effort speed of less than 2 Mbps is achieved with noise margin of less than 8 dB - which probably drops further in the evenings due to traffic/line interference.

If your voice service is out, you have a fault on the line. Resetting the port won't fix that. Report your voice line fault, and hang in there until they fix it. Only then will your ADSL service have a chance of getting back to normal.

I live in Bryanston, on a 10 Mbps-capable exchange. But my distance from the exchange means I will not see 10 Mbps (and never have) until they roll out MSANs in our part of the suburb. I used to see a solid 4 Mbps, but that has now degraded to 3.

Reported fault on 10210, they didn't even send me a reference as promised (automated). My line is still dead.
