Bryanston ADSL problems

Not a fault, but...

Just received automated voice calls from Telkom to tell me that our voice line and our ADSL line are being 'upgraded' next weekend. The noticeboard page confirms this - but no details as to what's involved. I've seen them laying fibre along the street, but no sign of an MSAN or any other new above-ground hardware in the area (Wilton Avenue).
Does anyone have any information on this?

All sorts of issues over the weekend. Line came back but synced horribly. Went down again today at around 10am. Anyone else?

Just an update on this - for what it's worth.

A week after the 'event' - whatever it was - my line is essentially unchanged. Worse, if anything. I still connect at 3072kbps, with 51dB attenuation and a noise margin less than 10dB. On the day of the supposed upgrade there was no sign of any activity in our street. Checking the Telkom noticeboard now, I am told that there are no upgrades planned for my line.

So, Telkom - raising false hopes, doing nothing, and failing to provide feedback to the customers you alerted re upgrades. Good job!

Massive issues today. Getting 3MB speeds on 10MB line no matter what ISP. Syncing at 10mb, just not getting it. Anyone else?

My 4mb ADSL line won't sync at more than 0.5mb for the last week. Getting really frustrated. Logged a flaut and received an sms that it been resolved. Same problem.

This thread has been quiet for a long time! Have we all just given up on Telkom?

My early-adopter ADSL line started life at 4 Mbps, synced at 6Mbps+ after the exchange was upgrade to handle 10 Mbps, and settled into a comfortable middle age running at 4Mbps with 12dB or more of noise margin.
Lately though the speed has degraded. Late last year I was only able to sync at about 3Mbps, but with adequate noise margin most of the time. Now, it's down to 2.5Mbps at 7dB noise margin (and my neighbour tells me he's only getting 1.2Mbps).
I'm also seeing a rise in the frequency of disconnects - which can be a real problem for us gamers, whether the game is tanks or bridge.
And then there's the evening congestion problem. Latency that balloons out to many hundreds of milliseconds, making streaming video a non-starter.
Meanwhile, the much-vaunted Telkom FTTH rollout seems to have stalled. Overhead fibre in my street that was pulled before Christmas hasn't been touched for two months.
And now Telkom wants to cut its workforce by another 40%...

I've logged a fault re my poor link speed and noise margin, but despite multiple callbacks from Telkom, nobody seems to have a clue as to how to fix the problem. Should I be grateful that they haven't already closed the case?

Re fibre:
I saw the Vumatel team getting their morning briefing near the 1st Bryanston scout hall yesterday. Nice pink shirts!
And I had a visit from the Huawei/Telkom installer guys on the weekend. They have to pull out and redo the overhead cable that was put in last year down our street, because it's too short, and doesn't reach the last houses in the row. Clever, ne?
