Sorry for reviving an old topic.

A friend got himself a Huawei E220, HSDPA USB modem. After installing the software and starting the vodafone software, less than 1 minute he gets a BSOD...BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER ~ STOP 0x000000FE (..., ..., ..., ...).

The RAM is not at fault. Updated the sound driver as well. No luck.

Where could the fault be? He also got a new modem, and the fault is still present. What to do now?

Probably the "BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER" is a givaway.....Try updating the BIOS and/or USB drivers on the system.

- How old is the PC?
- What OS?
- If XP, have you installed SP2 and all updates?

- First steps BIOS and USB driver updates.

The PC is a year old.

Here is the specs:
Motherboard:ECS RC410L/800-M V.2.0
CPU: 3066.6 MHz Intel,
80GB HDD,
512MB DDR2,
Win XP Pro SP2.

The BIOS was recently upgraded. This error also occurred when he used his cellphone as the a modem. I still think it is a hardware (PC) fault, because he tested the modem on another friend's PC and it worked.

I'll get more info from him tomorrow and rely it.

Well, I think you already know where the problem is. A USB hardware/driver issue. Maybe add a new USB card to the PC.

On one occasion I worked on a PC that was still having USB 2.0 issues even after XP SP2 was installed. It turned out that the USB controller was still using the old driver. The problem was solved by going to each USB controller in Device Manager and manually updating the driver.

I removed the motherboard this afternoon, and he took it back to Esquire for testing. Within the next 7 days we'll get the board back or a replacement board and test everything again.

As a matter of interest, did you try all the USB ports, if not, was it a front-USB port that you were using?

Got the replacement board this afternoon. Fitted it and had two sessions of about one hour. It is now working lekker.
