I am looking for a decent cheap laptop to replace my old P4 PC.

It doesn't have to be anything fancy. I don't play any games on it, but would watch movies on it. I was looking at spending about R5000 but I could stretch my budget to R6000.

I used a 2010 model HP Celeron 2Gb and that was light years ahead of my current PC. I think any i3/i5 with about 3Gb Ramm should be fine for my needs.

I've seen the HP & Toshiba Laptops on special this weekend at Game and was considering one of those. http://www.game.co.za/RapidCat/game/rsa/pages/page-8.jpg

Any advice or recommendations?

Check the specials from game, makro, dion wired, incredible corruption etc. Specials you can check on their site or leaflets in local papers. From that game link you posted I would probably pick the Toshiba.

Stop being a marketing prick and post your prices including VAT as you know your VAT exclusive pricing is useless to the consumer market.

I'm guessing he's getting the prices off a price list. They're still cheap if you add VAT.

I agree that it is useless to the end user consumer , then again MyBB members are not your average Joe Soap, they are intelligent enough to know that you need to add 14% to our prices, R3699 *1.14=R4216.86

I bought a gigabyte q1585n 2 months ago and is really satisfied. Bought it for R6000 and for me that was not bad if you look at the specs. Google it :-).

Sent from my HTC Desire using MyBroadband Android App

So are most consumers but you still don't advertise ex VAT prices to consumers on a public forum.

I got a 2nd hand 2010 Macbook for R4000 - I know most people don't like getting 2nd hand, but it's still got a 6 hour battery and nVidia 320M graphics so it's pretty awesome.

I was leaning towards the Samsung but it doesn't seam as if it has a stereo sound output. Out of all the features of a laptop, this is one of its greatest turnoffs.

After sales/warranty service is important to me, and anyone when their goods break under warranty. I suggest you avoid Esquire until they sort out their abysmal service record - which has driven them to actually censor (delete) threads/posts on this forum where forumites shared their horrific stories. Instead of sorting out the matter(s), they were simply censored.

I've asked Esquire to explain, but to no avail. I have also challenged him to create an "Esquire service" thread, also to no avail. I think that since they decided to sell to all MyBb end-users, we at least deserve to be protected somewhat by means of a dedicated service compliments/complaints thread.

That said, for good after-sales service, I would only recommend Asus or Dell.
