Budget smartphone WhatsApp advice please

Looking for a cheap (and I mean sub R1000) smartphone running Android Go for an elderly relative that will only be used for WhatsApp and nothing else.

I've got a list of budget phones like Hisense, Mobicel etc from the internet, not many at that price point, but looking for recommendations from people who've actually used these cheap phones.

Most important thing would be camera quality, which is obviously not gonna be comparable with my iPhone, but looking for the best of the worst. A half decent battery life would good too. TIA.

You are REALLY asking for far too much sub 1k..

Old people may be slow, but even they will run out of patience dealing with the performance of a sub 1k phone..

You will have to come up to sub 2k, where something like the Redmi a5 will definitely meet your needs..

Thanks, I've never used a doorstop for a phone before so was curious as to how painful it actually is using one of these phones.

I had the displeasure of using a cheap Hisense before and I threw it against the wall on day 3.. it was better being without a phone for 3 weeks than dealing with that utter piece of shyte..

Hisense is decent U70 Pro etc. or get an old iPhone from Cash Crusaders / Converters.
