Careful we dont want to offend some of the people here ;) We cannot blame the ANC for anything. ;)

Not to bothered by who I offend with that statement - Our current government is the ANC - the current government, according to me, is screwing up this country.

The worst part is, this world crisis has come at just the right time for the ANC - they now have something else to blame for failures.

I am in full and total agreement with you.

Not sure how old you are - but we're talking about public school's now, and not just the school's, the actual education system.

When I was in school - 10 years ago - the schools were still ok, I actually think it was just after I left when things started to go down.

Judging by your misuse of the apostrophe, I'm thinking that things have started going downhill even before you've been in school! :)

Seriously, though - my brother is in high school now and things aren't all bad. I help him with his technical drawings and his IT coding assignments and it hasn't changed that much since I was in school - which was about 6 years ago.

Actually - I didn't finish matric - and have never needed it - I've gotten pretty far without it, it even looks like I'll achieve the early retirement I'm aiming for. So yes, guess I don't need my english to be perfect... I bet anyone who went to an Afrikaans school probably feels the same... english is just a language.

I've also seen recent matric papers - the stuff they write on is what I did in Std. 8.

And Medical Aid contributions are no longer Tax Exempt.. decreased Income tax, but made more of your income Taxable.

Could you explain more? Does that just mean that they don't deduct it before you pay tax, but you can still claim on it at the end of the year? Or can you now not claim on med aid contributions at all? Because that's quite a big change  And what about medical expenses not covered by your medical aid?

Edit:

Actually, I think you're wrong. Looking at the pocket guide, it says:
Taxpayers under 65 are not taxed on, or may deduct, monthly contributions to medical schemes up to R625 for each of the irst two dependants on their medical scheme and R380 for each additional dependant. In addition they can claim a
deduction for medical scheme contributions above the caps and any other medical expenses limited to the amount which exceeds 7,5% of taxable income (excluding retirement fund lump sums)

I hope I am wrong...

I was jumping the gun a bit, its not the current fiscal year, but it will be in 2 years time.

Significantly, in preparation for the proposed changes, medical scheme contributions will cease to qualify as tax-free fringe benefits.

There aren't. Would you swop your private education with any of these free public education schools?

There are.

I have worked at many public schools through community service projects.
Just because everybody is not dropped off in a Chrysler and teachers don't drive BMW's doesn't mean/imply that children are not supported by dedicated teachers and staff in general ( under their circumstances of low resources from government).

Yes, there are a many public schools I would attend if I was not able to attend private schools which would have also afforded me the opportunity to attend University.

Although I spent most of my year in good small schools with small classes, not all of these were private schools.

To say that there aren't good public schools is far from reality.
