Budget tablet for grade 1

Also take note that you get things like Kinect now which actually makes children more active.
Sometimes without them even realizing it.

My son is 5 and a half. "Took" my tablet and uses it daily. Lenovo A6000 10". He downloads his own games and deletes what he doesn't like. HAs been proficient for a year now. My girl, 3 and a half also has her own "old" tablet. Swipes and plays kiddie games etc.

He also turns DSTV on and selects channels. He knows 305 is Nick etc. I let them play games and watch tv after school. At school they learn half the day and then play the rest of the day outside. He does swimming and rugby etc.

His school also started with tablets this year, Android luckily.

My 3 year old niece has a Leap Pad tablet. Works pretty well and is full of educational software and games.

My son, 6 years old, came into the house the other day, after playing with half bricks, exclaiming that Minecraft is soooooo much easier! :D

hardly. kids her age should be playing with 'real' stuff. with 'real' kids. getting her hands dirty. rolling in the grass. running through sprinklers. normal stuff. more than enough time for her to spend time with gadgets later on.
So are you letting your kid play with other kids, letting them play outside and rolling in the grass etc?

Got my kid a 7inch alcatel one touch pop, good enough, although I don't use a sim, wifi only.

but whatever tablet you decide to get, GET A PROTECTIVE POUCH.

im tryng to limit my kids exposure to tech. last night she walked over and asked for my phone. I was like :wtf:. she turned 2 last week. when she plays with the tablet she does things that my wife cant even do. on the weekend she played with it and my wife showed me the selfies she took. she knows how to swipe. exit apps. its a scary business.

I once read this incredible piece on how Apple themselves had no idea a child would get the hang of iOS so quickly. People think that Modern UI is fuddy and hard to learn - I've seen a six year-old pick it up in five minutes, albiet on a tablet.

Honestly, it's scary to watch someone who's never used a GUI before get used to one so quickly. I don't think any of the big five (Apple, Microsoft, Google, Blackberry, Samsung) design their UI with children in mind because they do things differently on a fundamental level.

When I can. At night I get to play with her. Last night she found a beach ball, we had fun. The weather is improving rapidly down here so will be unleashing her on the parks soon. Watch out!

This is so sad .

I'd remove my kids from a primary school that required electronic tablets. They're very damaging to developing kids.
