Budget tablet for grade 1

So, back to my question/topic, does any one know where I can find a comparison for these budget tablets?

Haai all,

My son needs a tablet for grade 1!!! :wtf: The budget is tight and it needs to be a tablet running Android, I would like Kit-kat but I see Jelly bean is the latest that the budget tablets support.

My question; what is the best, sub R 1`000 tablet for a grade 1? (It's not like they will do video editing on it)
(I can maybe go up to R 1`500)
Pro-line, Prestigio, etc?

Fanx,
TX

I do not want to be mean...

But it might be better spending a lil more on the tablet. Something with at least 8GB.

My neighbour's daughter is currently using one in high school:
It has broken twice, replaced under warranty (once I suspect it was actually a user fault)
The USB port got damaged. *
With 4 GB of space she constantly has to delete stuff. This has caused her problems due to textbook deletion, and also deleting current work.

Re the USB port: at clients of mine they use the same tabs(others have more expensive units) for out "in the field" work. They then link the tab to their PC at the office to DL the stuff.

They keep breaking the USB port. So now the management have decided to only take the more expensive units as they cost less in the long term.

Young children need units that are more sturdy.

Get a unit with wifi only. Then they can connect to school network, and at home, permitting you have wifi internet access at home.

@Venomous, one is never mean when giving good advice ;)

I'm taking notes...

And I agree wifi only. My oldest got a phone when he was in grade 4 (6 years ago) and quickly ran up R 3`000 worth of subscriptions - lesson learned :D

Truth is at that a young age a 5inch screen phone will do the job. But then again at that age he is more likely to lose it than a 7inch tablet

That's not the issue here.
Schools are expecting kids to have tablets for class now.

im tryng to limit my kids exposure to tech. last night she walked over and asked for my phone. I was like :wtf:. she turned 2 last week. when she plays with the tablet she does things that my wife cant even do. on the weekend she played with it and my wife showed me the selfies she took. she knows how to swipe. exit apps. its a scary business.

When my son was two, I let him type in the windows logon box, when I got to the PC it said it could not find the OS o.O
When he was 5, he manage to invert the screen, using the keyboard, in the HP shop, we quietly left the shop...

@akescpt, take your daughter to the Samsung shop and let her go wild (some revenge against the tech companies)

Also, I've taught my kids to press every button on every toy if they can reach it, that will teach P&P to tempt my kids :P

hardly. kids her age should be playing with 'real' stuff. with 'real' kids. getting her hands dirty. rolling in the grass. running through sprinklers. normal stuff. more than enough time for her to spend time with gadgets later on.

My 6 year old daughter has had a toy phone (old Galaxy S plus without a sim and full of games) and her own computer for paint/watching movies, games etc since she was 3.
She plays with the phone 2 to 3 times a week for at most an hour then forgets about it and goes and rides her bicycle or plays with her Alpha (dragon toy) or dolls.

The pc she turns on and usually watches a spongebob or dora then loses interest and back to the toys.

strange dictating what a child should and should not experience. in my opinion it's simple.
They should experience all things fun and educational.
They should not experience pain or trauma.
