Bugatti Chiron Will Not Attempt Top Speed Record

When the Chiron arrived back in 2016 petrol heads around the world have been wondering if it would attempt a top speed run.

It would need to beat the Koenigsegg Agera RS but now according to Motor Trend, Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed there are no plans to take down that Swedish rival. How come? Because, according to Winkelmann, “to only talk top speed is not a priority for me.”

We know his brand outlook is different than that of his predecessor, Wolfgang Durheimer but we would still love to see this hypercar pushed to the limit.

“When I read in the past about the car and what we communicated about it, we were missing a big part of what the car is all about,” Winkelmann said. “You have cars of nice designs or others that are supersports cars that are fast and performing. It is much more important than showing one little slice of what this car is able to do.”

He did also point out that “261 mph is enough for me.”

For the top speed lovers we will have to wait and see what happens with the Hennessey Venom F5 and any new Koenigsegg creation.

Deliveries Begin For The Bugatti Chiron Sport

Customer’s around the world are starting to receive their Chiron Sport hypercars with this black and blue example being one of the very first.

It has been fitted with a huge number of personalised options for it’s owner, Abdulla Bin Fahad of Qatar, and certainly stands out with this bright and bold spec.

A deep shade of blue is contrasted by a carbon fibre black rear end. Touches of blue have been applied to the rear diffuser, engine covers and rear Bugatti logo and light surround. The brake callipers are even finished in the same blue.

As you can see, it is very blue inside as custom touches have been applied to most surfaces. The entire interior is a very bold shade of blue with what looks like contrast bronze facias. Interestingly, this particular Chiron has not been ordered with Bugatti’s glass roof, another of Bugatti’s recently revealed options.

As a reminder the Chiron Sport was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show last year to give owners additional performance refinement, 18 kg less weight and a torque vectoring function.

How does one tell it is the Sport model versus the regular model? There is a new wheel design and four-pipe exhaust deflector but if you manage to get up close and personal then you will notice the Sport gets carbon fibre windscreen wipers.

Bugatti Chiron Sport 110 ans Bugatti

110 years. Scarcely any other luxury car brand can look back on as long a tradition as Bugatti. The French hyper sports car manufacturer celebrated this fantastic anniversary with a special edition of the Chiron Sport limited to 20 cars. This new edition is not only extremely exclusive but also pays tribute to France.

"With the limited Chiron Sport '110 ans Bugatti', Bugatti is ushering in the 110th anniversary of its foundation. At the same time, we are underlining our origin and our French roots in Molsheim," says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. "Molsheim in the Alsace region of France is an essential element in Bugatti's brand history and this is also where we are planning our future."

Tricolour decorates the "110 ans Bugatti" in tribute to France

The Bugatti Chiron Sport "110 ans Bugatti" bears one of the most famous symbols of a proud nation. The French tricolour "Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge", with its colours of blue, white and red, decorates the body and interiors at several points and harmonizes perfectly with the extraordinary Chiron Sport. The flag originally symbolized the union between monarch and people in the phase of the constitutional monarchy. Since the end of the monarchy, it has represented the French Revolution with its famous ideals of liberty (blue), equality (white) and fraternity (red).

Taking a first look at the Chiron, you may be surprised to see that the colours of the French flag are shown as a mirror image on the right-hand side of the vehicle. This is also the arrangement adopted on French official vehicles, where the standard has the colour of liberty (blue) to the fore on both sides.

Limited Bugatti Chiron Sport “110 Ans Bugatti” Celebrates 110th Anniversary

Bugatti just dropped a special edition of the Chiron out of nowhere and it is not just any Chiron, but the more hardcore Sport version introduced almost a year ago at the Geneva Motor Show.

It has been built to celebrate the brands 110th anniversary and will be limited to just 20 units worldwide.

The full carbon fibre body is covered in a matte Steel Blue paint, and that includes the familiar “C” shape on the side profile surrounding the passenger compartment. It sits on matte black alloy wheels paired with bright blue brake calipers to complement the body’s finish. Even the aluminum fuel cap is a thing of beauty, having been sandblasted and hand-polished to obtain that special look.

As you will notice, it carries the French flag theme on the side mirror caps as well as on the underside of the rear spoiler.

Inside you will see the French tricolor on the seats where the headrests also have the “110 ans Bugatti” logo. The hypercar marque covered the steering wheel in blue leather and applied carbon accents to the steering column and in other areas throughout the cabin. Even the key has the blue, white, and red look thanks to three sewn leather patches on the sides.

No hardware changes which means the 8.0-litre W16 quad-turbo packs 1,479 hp (1,103 kW) and 1,500 Nm of torque.

Bugatti Chiron Sport '110 ans Bugatti' edition revealed

Special-edition model celebrates brand's 110th anniversary and French roots; is limited to 20 examples

Bugatti has revealed a special, ultra-exclusive version of the Chiron Sport as part of its 110th anniversary as a brand.

Described as a “tribute to France” and the brand’s Molsheim base, the Chiron Sport '110 ans Bugatti' features unique design and colour changes inside and out and is limited to just 20 examples.

Much of the 1479bhp hypercar’s bodywork revisions are themed around France's blue, white and red tricolour flag. The most prominent use of that is on the underside of the Chiron’s movable rear wing, while stripes also feature on the door mirrors and aluminium filler caps on both sides.

A subtle two-tone colour scheme marks out the special edition, with Steel Blue matt paint at the rear and Steel Blue Carbon for the exposed carbonfibre at the front.

The livery is designed to visually separate the car’s monocoque and engine compartment, according to Bugatti. Matt black wheels covering blue brake callipers complete the main exterior revisions.

Inside, the car features tricolour stripes down the headrests and backrests of the two-tone blue leather and Alcantara seats. The recently added Sky View glass panel roof, optional on the standard Chiron, is also made standard, while a solid silver medallion mounted on a carbonfibre plate is fitted to the centre console.

The model's mechanical make-up is identical to that of the regular Chiron Sport, which was revealed at last year’s Geneva motor show. That means its quad-turbocharged 8.0-litre W16 engine makes it good for a 2.5sec 0-62mph time and a top speed limited to 261mph.

Pricing details for the '110 ans Bugatti' are yet to be announced.

Bugatti celebrates 110 years with special Chiron Sport

Bugatti has taken the wraps off its new Chiron Sport ‘110 ans Bugatti’ model, conceived to celebrate the French firm’s 110-year anniversary.

The Francophiles among you will no doubt have noticed the special model’s tricolour colour scheme, with blue, white and red decorating parts of the body (such as the side-mirror caps) and interior.

The rear of the car is finished in matte Steel Blue paintwork (contrasting with the matte black exhaust system), with the “C” shaped element surrounding the passenger compartment painted in the same hue. The front end, meanwhile, consists of exposed carbon-fibre in Steel Blue Carbon.

The matte black “Nocturne” alloy wheels frame bright blue brake callipers, while the aluminium filler cap has been sandblasted and hand-polished. A “110 ans Bugatti” emblem, with the French flag running vertically through the logo, is placed at the centre of the cap.

The underside of the rear spoiler, meanwhile, boasts the French flag over its entire width, with the spoiler mechanism anodised in matte black. The so-called “Sky View” roof (comprising two fixed glass panels) is a standard feature on the new model.

Inside, the French tricolour again features strongly, including on the headrests and the back rests of the Deep Blue leather sports seats, decorated by embroidery with the flag in a vertical position. The sports steering wheel combines matte carbon-fibre with a blue leather cover.

A specially crafted medallion, meanwhile, is sited in the central console stowage space, fashioned from solid silver with enamel inserts and set on a carbon-fibre plate.

Mechanically, the ‘110 ans Bugatti’ model is unchanged from the, er, “standard” Chiron Sport, still featuring an 8,0-litre W16 engine with four turbochargers, delivering 1 103 kW and 1 600 N.m. That’s enough to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in less than 2,4 seconds, says Bugatti, before reaching 200 km/h in 6,1 seconds and 300 km/h in 13,1 seconds. And the magic figure of 400 km/h? Bugatti says the figure can be reached in some 32,6 seconds…

Bugatti ‘Baby’ Car Costs R530k

Back in 1926 Ettore and Jean Bugatti created a half-scale Type 35 for Ettore’s youngest son, Roland. The two built the car for Roland’s fourth birthday and now Bugatti is reviving the Bugatti ‘Baby’ on the company’s 110th birthday.

The new model known as Baby II was shown off at Bugatti’s stand at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show and in typical Bugatti style it is not cheap!

It is limited to 500 examples and comes with a price tag of €30,000 euros (plus taxes and delivery) which is around R530,000 at today’s exchange rate. What does this ludicrous amount get you?

There is a rear-wheel-drive battery-powered electric powertrain and removable lithium-ion battery packs. There’s even a limited slip differential and regenerative braking system. In the 1kW ‘child mode,’ it can hit a top speed of 20 km/h (12.4 mph). When the 4kW ‘adult mode’ is activated, it can hit 45 km/h (28 mph). Bugatti even has a ‘Speed Key’ upgrade, like the speed key for the Chiron, which allows power to reach 10 kW.

Inside you will find a turned aluminium dashboard, leather seat and a four-spoke steering wheel. The ‘toy’ sits on eight-spoke aluminium allow wheels and also sports modern brakes, headlights, and a ‘Macaron’ badge made of 50g of silver.

Even with that price tag you will probably find that most of the units are already sold.

The Average Bugatti Customer Owns 42 Cars

The Molsheim-based coachbuilder is well known for its high-speed sports cars that back a price so exuberant that you will battle to count the zeros on the end.

When it comes to hyper-expensive cars like the offerings from Bugatti, individuals who actually purchase their cars have a passion for automobiles, or at least vehicles that will make a display of affluence.

A recent comment by a Bugatti spokesperson indicated that the average Bugatti customer has a total of 42 different cars in their automotive stable.

Generally, two of the 42 cars are from the Bugatti marque and you can bet they will be in some very special company.

The most recent example of the ultra-expensive brand’s offerings is the La Voiture Noire which sold for €16.7 million ($18.9 million). But, if you’re not posh enough to own the black car, perhaps the $5.8 million 1,478 horsepower Divo would be more up your alley. Still too expensive? Lowly peasants can consider the Chiron, a $3 million hypercar that also fulfills many individual’s need for speed.K

Bugatti has also identified that most of its customers don’t want to drive a gas-guzzling, 16-cylinder, quad-turbo monster around the city. In fact, some of its European customers may not be allowed to do so in the near future so they have announced plans to develop an “everyday” ultra-luxury car for its customers.

Bugatti Chiron Successor Coming 2025-2026

As Bugatti continues to build and deliver their Chiron hypercar, plans are already being drawn up for the replacement.

TheSupercarBlog recently sat down with a Bugatti executive who mentioned that the company has already started working on the Chiron successor and is expected to arrive sometime around 2025-26.

Of course, the project is still in its early stages and technical details about the next hypercar are still unknown. However, he did mention that the 8.0-litre, W16 engine “still has a bright future ahead of it”.

In addition to the Chiron successor, Bugatti is said to be working on a second model. Moreover, this new car will be ready before the Chiron successor. Could this be a performance SUV or a four-door luxury sedan?

Bugatti Chiron Nearly Sold Out

As you should all know, Bugatti is only planning to build 500 units of the Chiron and while production will continue through 2022, the time to put in order is running out.

Car and Driver are reporting that over 400 Chiron’s have been spoken for, with a little over 180 cars delivered to date. That means there are under 100 build slots still available.

Bugatti Has Delivered 200 Chiron’s So Far

The 200th Bugatti Chiron has left the production line and it is no ordinary model either as it was a Sport 110 ans Bugatti version, one of just 20 examples.

It has taken Bugatti a little over two years to reach this milestone but it seems to be ramping up quite steadily. During its first year of production, Bugatti delivered 70 cars, increasing to 76 during its second year. This year, Bugatti expects to break the 80 car mark.

Bugatti Boss Keen On 310 MPH (500 Km/H) Chiron Variant

Last week we mentioned that Bugatti was keen on an EV SUV and now a report from Automobile Mag confirms that a lighter more powerful version of its current Chiron will one day be capable of cracking 310 mph (500 km/h).

Bugatti’s boss, Stephan Winkelmann said in an interview with the publication that the Chiron will be capable of travelling 80 km/h faster than the current car’s “limited 420 km/h”. Winkelmann said the challenge internally remained finding a tyre partner willing to supply rubber that could cope with hitting 500 km/h.

Winkelmann was careful to point out the 500 km/h Chiron would only go ahead if the business case for re-engineering it to hit that speed was sound.

Bugatti Needs To Do A Top Speed Run For The Chiron Already

I was having a really hard time caring about the Buggati Centodieci this week. Another special-edition version of an already limited car selling for an ungodly amount of money. Then, I saw that its top speed is 231 mph. And now I’m angry.

The way I see it, Bugatti’s modern reason for being is the top speed record. They Veyron smashed the record and instantly catapulted Bugatti into the modern conscious, known everywhere as the fastest car in the world. Then, when the crown was taken by the SCC Ultimate Aero, Bugatti fired back with the Veyron Super Sports World Record Edition. It managed an absurd 268 mph.

Then they launched the Chiron. With a decade of lessons learned, 300 more horsepower and a big name to live up to, the Chiron should easily be the fastest production care ever made.

Except, Bugatti didn’t do a top speed test. Instead, they limited it to 261 mph. While that’s higher than the limited speed of the Veyron Supersports (258), it’s still below the verified top speed of the previous generation car.

Maybe they wanted to wait until the record was challenged. Why show people what you can do when you’re already in the lead, right? Plus, Bugatti had one extra trick to keep its record safe: Volkswagen, Bugatti’s parent company, owns the only test track with a straightaway long enough to max out a car as fast as the Veyron.

So that explanation made sense until the Koenigsegg came along. Forget a test track, the company just shut down a gigantic stretch of Utah highway and let the Agera XS rip. It set a record of 278 mph.
