Bugatti Start Delivering R50 Million Chiron Super Sport

Bugatti showed revealed the Chiron Super Sport in June last year as one of the fastest cars that the French marque has ever made and now they have confirmed that deliveries have begun.

One of the first units comes in a very unique spec thanks to the Sur Mesure customization program. The bespoke paintwork is called the ‘Vagues de Lumière’ that was made in close collaboration between its new, undisclosed owner and Bugatti’s Sur Mesure team. The intricate hand-painted pattern mimics the way lights reflect off Chiron Super Sport’s body.

Bugatti did make it very clear that all nine build slots have already been reserved, “with an extensive waiting list should any open up.”

Limited edition Bugatti Chiron Super Sport models to be delivered to customers

The limited edition of the highly exclusive and potent French model has started being delivered to its customers. The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport remains one the fastest ever produced by the manufacturer and unfortunately all build slots have been reserved, if you were considering adding this to your garage.

Unlike its mass-produced Super Sport 300+ sibling, there have only been nine build slots allocated to the 440 km/h capable engineering marvel. Okay, we do joke about the Super Sport 300+, but 30 units is a fair amount more than this Chiron Super Sport which was introduced in June of 2021.

Why do they muck it up with all the stickers?

A single Bugatti Chiron has been recalled over a single loose screw

Some would call it pedantic but we’re sure any driver would want their hyper-car which is capable of ludicrous speeds to be correctly assembled and fastened according to the most stringent safety standards. A single Bugatti Chiron has since been recalled over a loose screw which could compromise its crash protection.

The early Chiron model, which was assembled on the 17th of November in 2017 was issued for recall by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The directive states that one of two screws of the front frame support has a torque rating of 9 N.m as opposed to the recommended 19 N.m.

After an internal investigation of their extensive database, Bugatti found that this sole model required a recall to get the said screw up to spec. The French manufacturer has stated they will handle the transportation of the engineering marvel to its nearest authorised workshop to assess and tighten the problem screw to its required specification.

The NHTSA state that the loose screw of the US located hypercar could potentially reduce structural integrity of the 400 km/h creation in the event of a collision and thus increase risk of injury for occupants.

Imagine Taking Delivery of Eight Bugattis At The Same Time

Seeing a Bugatti is something special and owning one is even more so but what if you are in a whole new league and take delivery of eight of them at the same time.

Their latest handover hosted at Bugatti’s famed Château Saint-Jean included the insane Chiron Super Sport 300+, a Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse World Record Edition (1 of 8) and six of the Bugatti Baby II.

This delivery procedure is called the “The Molsheim Experience” and allows the wealthy customers to really understand and dig deep into the history of the brand.

The owner of these cars flew all six of his kids to the event to explore the Atelier and tour the immaculate Bugatti grounds and exclusive museum.

Obviously, the two heavy-hitters of the delivery were the two full-size vehicles but the owner did not want his children to feel left out so each one took delivery of a custom made Bugatti Baby II.

Bugatti reveals two bespoke Chiron models with unique liveries

The one-off cars, based on the Chiron Super Sport and Pur Sport, feature designs inspired by 'waves of light'

Bugatti has revealed two bespoke models that have been produced through its Sur Mesure customisation programme.

The two hypercars – a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport and a Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport – feature 'Vagues de Lumière’ (waves of light) paintwork, special design details and unique interior trim.

The 1587bhp Chiron Super Sport is painted in California Blue and sports a series of orange streaks to represent what Bugatti calls "light-inspired" lines.

Its front grille features the number 38, at its owner's request, painted in orange, matching the car’s eye-catching wheels and leather cabin.

Meanwhile, the bespoke Chiron Pur Sport has blue, exposed carbonfibre, a spoiler with the French national flag on each end plate and a blue number nine positioned in the centre of the model’s horseshoe grille.

Inside, the Pur Sport is fitted with a combination of Beluga Black and French Racing Blue leather.

Bugatti Sur Mesure has revealed these custom-painted Chirons

The company’s new customisation department has spent many weeks wielding many paint brushes

Remember just before Christmas when Bugatti announced it was launching a special customisation division? Well the pair of Chirons you see here are two of the first to get the Sur Mesure treatment.

Quite out there, aren’t they? Let’s start with the Chiron Super Sport: it gets what Bugatti calls a ‘Vagues de Lumiére’ paint job, with a California Blue finish liberally decorated with ‘Aancia Mira’ (read ‘orange’) decals.
The same finish is applied to the magnesium wheels and engine bay lettering, while the number 38 appears on the grille at the request of the owner.

Meanwhile, the Chiron Pur Sport gets exposed Blue Carbon bodywork with Nocturne stripes, a French Tricolor on the rear wing endplates, plus lashings of French Racing Blue inside and out.

The process for both cars took a total of five weeks, with every layer of paint (and Bugatti says there are a lot) applied carefully by hand with ‘millimetre-perfection’. Plenty of clearcoat is applied afterwards to make sure the handiwork survives the elements thereafter.

The evolution of Bugatti, according to 300mph Andy Wallace

Chiron Super Sport is a truly epic finale for pure-ICE Bugatti hypercars. We contemplate what will come next

You may know Andy Wallace for a few different things.

If not for recently taking a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport to 300mph, it will be for taking a McLaren F1 to 240mph, winning at Le Mans on his first try or winning the Daytona 24 Hours three times. Bugatti’s ‘pilote officiel’ has enjoyed – and is still enjoying – quite the career.

These days, many weeks it involves climbing into his own Volkswagen ID 3 in Buckinghamshire and driving to the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, a town in Alsace, north-eastern France, taking less than an hour to charge. So perhaps it feels like he hasn’t entirely stopped endurance racing, where the less time you spend stationary the better.

The Molsheim gaff is cool. It’s the original home of the Bugatti factory and, despite Croatian EV specialist Rimac taking some kind of control of the company alongside Porsche (of the Volkswagen Group), it looks like it will stay that way.

The Chiron Super Sport makes more power than Bugatti expected

Bugatti deploys a monstrous dyno to test the power of its wild 273mph creation

This, ladies and gentlemen of the Internet, is a 273mph Bugatti Chiron Super Sporttied to a very heavy-duty dyno. Shades of Frankenstein’s Monster strapped to the operating table, aren’t there?

Anyway, Bugatti recently tethered its own monster to the dynamometer to check how much power the 8.0-litre W16 engine was producing. It had previously quoted a not insignificant 1,578bhp, but recent tests show that it’s more like 1,595bhp. That’s more like it…

The dyno itself is a very interesting piece of kit, too. Bugatti describes it as a ‘high-performance all-wheel single-roller dynamometer’, which essentially means the car’s wheel runs on one large roller rather than the usual two.

The wheel’s ‘rolling behaviour’ is closer to how it would be on the road as a result, and the tyres produce less heat than they would between two small rollers. That means you can test up to higher speeds, with Bugatti’s dyno allowing for 480kph (298mph). Lucky the road-going Super Sport is limited to 273mph then, isn’t it?

You Can Buy This Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ Front End For R6 Million

The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ is limited to just 30 examples worldwide so you can bet not only is the entire car expensive but even spare parts for it.

According to @parts.4.usa on Instagram, they have an original front end assembly for a Chiron Super Sport 300+ which can be yours for a cool $400,000 (approx. R6 million).

The listing states that it is brand new and includes the front lip, both fenders and the hood. It also claims to be OEM which we find to be rather peculiar not only because there are only 30 cars in the world but why would a parts company have this available? Has one of the delivered units had an oops already?
