Final Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ Delivered

Bugatti has delivered the last of its record-breaking Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ models, which means the 30-example production run has finished.

When the Chiron Super Sport 300+ smashed through the 300 mph barrier in 2019 the world took notice. Never before had a production car reached such speeds and thus instantly grabbed a spot in history and now stands as a marker in the quest for ever greater performance and speed.

Following the world record success, during a celebration of Bugatti’s 110th anniversary, Bugatti committed to building 30 examples of the record-breaking car for customers, the last of which has now gone to its private home.

Exclusive: Bugatti to launch hybrid Chiron successor in 2027

Next-generation hypercar will get a smaller engine, with design that will "blow people out of the water"

Bugatti’s next all-new hypercar, set for release in 2027, will use a hybrid powertrain with a petrol engine smaller than the current W16.

It will look “different” to current Bugatti cars but will retain the essence of the brand, with an aerodynamic focus, the French marque’s chief designers have told Autocar.

It will sit on a new chassis and is expected to be leaner than the recently revealed Bugatti Mistral roadster, due to the smaller powerplant.

“It offers opportunities,” said design director Achim Anscheidt, speaking about the upcoming hybrid powertrain.

“There are opportunities to get just a bit more athletic for the shape of Bugatti in the future without losing the general gesture of generosity or sovereignty.

"It will also have its constraints, because of performance and performance needs. But we know every centimetre of our cars so well by now that we know exactly where [change] would help us and where it would create a problem.”

Bugatti shelves electric SUV to focus on 'more exclusive' cars

New owner Rimac decides against higher volume 'everyday' model

A second Bugatti model with a focus on practical, everyday use appears to have been shelved.

The car was first mooted by former Bugatti chairman Stephan Winkelmann, before the firm became part of Bugatti Rimac last year. The model was expected to take the form of an SUV or four-door GT and be one of the manufacturer’s first electrically powered offerings.

It was also tipped to share components with other brands under the umbrella of the Volkswagen Group, the marque’s former owner.

At the time, Winkelmann said the proposed model would be “a car to be used on a daily basis” and have “a different shape” to the then-flagship Chiron as well as a “different mission”, adding that the car wouldn’t house Bugatti’s famous W16 engine and instead “electrification would be the right approach”.

Now, however, design director Achim Anscheidt has revealed to Autocar that the brand is concerned that such a move could sell out its badge and make Bugatti a less exclusive manufacturer than it currently is.

All-electric Bugatti is coming but not this decade

Mate Rimac, the CEO of Bugatti-Rimac, was planning to launch a hybrid and all-electric Bugatti supercar before 2030. According to the design director of Bugatti, that plan has changed a little bit. The company will focus on the hybrid supercar first and it plans to unveil in 2027.

Frank Heyl, who is the deputy design director of Bugatti, did not want to confirm the electric Bugatti was pushed beyond 2030 but mentioned the team was focusing “on this decade, with the hybrid vehicle.” Apparently, when the all-electric Bugatti finally arrives, it “will blow people out of water” according to Mr Heyl.

Mate Rimac did suggest at one point that he wanted Bugatti to expand its portfolio and move away from a one-model strategy. He wanted the company to produce not only hypercars but other models as well that would allow more customers to enjoy the exclusive brand.

New CEO has a fight on his hands, the old guard is clearly focused on preserving the brand image and exclusivity and is worried that the new models can erode the value of Bugatti cars. Design director Achim Anscheidt said that Bugatti was concerned of selling out the brand and making it less exclusive by introducing different cars.

Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Drifts A Perfect ‘C’

The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is designed for corners; engineered for lateral acceleration and incomparable driving dynamics. As production reaches the halfway point, with the 30th unit recently being delivered to its new owner, Bugatti celebrates the spectrum of performance of the Chiron family that characterizes the Pur Sport as its most agile member by ‘Drifting The C’, the iconic sideline of the design DNA.

Overnight precipitation means the tarmac is slick, glistening in the early morning sunshine.

The advanced four-wheel-drive system is ready to channel the full fury of 1,500 PS and 1,600 Nm, delivered by one of the most innovative powertrains ever created: the 8.0-litre W16.

Bugatti Chiron Profilee

The Bugatti Chiron Profilée is an automotive solitaire. A one-of-a-kind member of the Chiron line-up envisioned as a less radical interpretation of the Pur Sport, it is unique in character, in design and in its details. With all build slots for the Chiron spoken for, the auction of the Profilée in Paris on 1 February 2023 is the sole opportunity to acquire one of the final W16-powered Bugatti creations directly from the Molsheim Atelier.

With the reveal of the Chiron Pur Sport in 2020, the world was shown the most extreme personality of the Chiron family yet. With a six-foot-wide fixed rear wing, shorter gear ratios, advanced magnesium wheels and a raft of other innovations, the Pur Sport was designed for corners. It would sell out quickly, but some customers had asked if a Chiron model could be made that would integrate aspects of its character, while maintaining the timeless elegance of models like the Chiron or the Chiron Sport. It was here that the Profilée was born.

Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles, said: "Taking customer wishes to explore a less radical version of the Pur Sport seriously into consideration, we started with the design and development of the Chiron Profilée in Autumn 2020. By the time we saw the pre-series vehicle coming out of production, all Chiron slots limited to just 500 were assigned for. But we knew that what we had created was too beautiful to be hidden away. It is - in every sense - a unique piece in Bugatti's history and a true collector's item. And we wanted to give a fair chance to any devotee of the Bugatti brand to acquire this unique car, so we decided to partner with RM Sotheby's to auction it."

Bugatti Chiron Profilee is one-off, less extreme Pur Sport

French firm's latest hypercar, one of the last to be fitted with its iconic W16 engine, will be auctioned off in February

A one-off Bugatti Chiron, created as a less radical interpretation of the extreme Pur Sport and equipped with a fixed rear wing, will be auctioned off to raise money for charity.

Called the Chiron Profilée, it will be one of the final cars to house the French brand’s iconic W16 engine. The recently revealed Bugatti Mistral roadster will be the very last production model to use the near-1500bhp powerplant.

The new bespoke coupé, which can shift from standing to 62mph in just 2.3sec, was originally created as an experiment to see if aspects of the hardcore Pur Spot could be integrated into a Bugatti that was more comfort-focused after customers demanded that one be made.

“We knew that what we had created was too beautiful to be hidden away,” said Bugatti president Christophe Piochon, going on to call it “a true Bugatti and a unique piece of collectible automotive history”.

The final Chiron variant has been revealed: the one-off Bugatti Chiron 'Profilée'

And this one-off hyper-special will be auctioned off in early 2023. Care to venture a guess as to how much it'll fetch?

The last Chiron. And perhaps the most controversial. We’ll come on to that, but in the meantime dit bonjour to the Bugatti Chiron Profilée.

It’s a one-off, based on the Pur Sport. That car, you might remember was the lightest, most track focused Chiron. It wore magnesium wheels, shorter gear ratios that improved sprinting ability (2.3secs to 62mph stat fans!) and a giant six foot wide rear wing.

But Bugatti’s customers (what a demanding bunch they are) wanted more. They asked for a car that combined the dynamic appeal of the Pur Sport, with the more muted aesthetics of the ‘lesser’ Chirons. And so the Profilée was born.

In place of the raised full width wing comes an integrated spoiler that still manages to develop 80 per cent of the Pur Sport’s downforce. And do so more efficiently. While the Pur Sport’s top speed was 218mph, the Profilée is capable of 236mph. The wing serves a double purpose, not only delivering downforce with its top surface, but evacuating hot air from the underside.

Bugatti Chiron 10-Year Ownership Costs As Much As R3.5m

Bugatti is one of the most expensive and exclusive cars money can buy so it should come as no shock to hear that the ‘cost of ownership’ is pretty damn steep.

The Hamilton Collection recently uploaded a video that gives us some great insight into the cost to service the Bugatti Chiron outside its factory 4-year warranty.

While Bugatti includes a bumper-to-bumper warranty that also takes care of its annual services, the final fourth-year service stands out as a whopping $34,000 job.

Outside the regular factory coverage, Bugatti advertises a matching 4-year plan for $204,000 or a service-alone agreement for $11,500 per year.

If you need to replace some individual items be prepared to drop big cash. New engine? That will be $856,406 (approx R14m). If the transmission needs to be replaced, they will ask $185,000 (approx. R3.1m) and as much as $13,547 (R230k) for a new key.
