Busy looking at putting together a new machine for myself and would love to get hold of some price lists.

They don't have to be the latest - I just want to get an idea of rough prices and what component models available.

I see Genex in CT are no more - any lists for rectron or other sellers in CT?

Pretty pls :D

ok ok:) i know how you feel..
May I ask what brand you favour?
For gpu's - radeon or nvidia
motherboards- gigabyte, asus?
etc etc..

I'll give that a skip thanks - way too expensive. I want to put together a fairly decent machine but not a top of the range one that I'll have to sell my soul to afford :(

I see that because the HD4890 has been released, the prices of the HD4830/50/70 have all come down, if you look around, you could pick up a HD4830 for about R1500!

Further more, it's to my understanding that the HD4770 will release soon which has ddr5 and a 128bit-bus interface, and it will be around the R1500-R2000 bracket in South Africa and it performs between the HD4830 and HD4850. Looks to be a very nice card, is on the newer 40nm transistor size and thus will ask for minuscule amounts of power :D.

I think you should wait a bit for these graphics cards to lower there prices and what not.

As for CPU, maybe a 3 core or 4 core cpu as those are quite cheap now, and you can get an AMD X3 720 black edition that begs to be overclocked and it's quite stable at 3.6-4ghz.

DDR2 ram should be more then fine

A nice 500watt Power supply would be nice and sufficient in this case

As for a mobo, if you go the AMD route, then go for a 790gx/fx mobo and if you go the intel route, don't go for anything lower then a P35 mobo.

I think if you want a nice pc with a decent longevity you going to have to spend around R8000-R10000 hey. I guess you gotta break eggs to make an omelet

Thanks for the tips/pm's

I need to start looking around - my current PC is a 3.4 with a AGP card. Real old so its time to start from scratch again. The last time I investigated an upgrade it was for a AGP GPU

I used to be a Intel/Asus fan, but hear the AMD's rock now - and are very decently prices. Also partial to Nvidia. But I'm open to anything now - if its better and worth the money I'll look into it.

I need to do some serious research into what to get and need to check what components you can get and what the best bang for your buck.

With bonus time around the corner hopefully I'll be able to put in around10K

Definitely get the phenom 720. A great performer for the price.

You can get a 512mb 4870 from prophecy for R2600.

An asus am2+ Board with 790fx or 780gx with sb750 and 4gigs of corsair 800mhz ram.

If you give me a spec I can give you some pricing I have access to Frontosa, Pinnacle, Rectron, Sahara and a few others.

Phenom x3 720 BE (R1950)
Biostar 790GX (R1100)

These 2 go nicely together, mine even detects the 4th core, although it's not prime95 stable :<

Could any of you please send me frontosa or rectron pricelists

but hear the AMD's rock now

Well, performance-wise I'd say Intel (although I own a AMD), but since we're on a budget here, I'll say go the AMD route. It's the cheaper Quad option I think. (But please, let us not start another AMD vs Intel thread here :) )

Good luck man!

Phenom x3 720 BE (R1950)
Biostar 790GX (R1100)

These 2 go nicely together, mine even detects the 4th core, although it's not prime95 stable :<

Did you try increasing the voltage slightly? Or maybe try downclocking it. A 2.6 quad or 2.8 tri?

:D

Fanbois ahoy! :D

Jokes...

Because anyone that doesn't recommend intel is a fanboy... Right?
