Hey people :)

I know these threads get posted all the time and are very subjective for each person, but I'm just looking for opinions on these specs I've put together this morning. It's been years since I last upgraded so I'm out of the loop with a lot of the new technology, aside from what I've read this morning. I'd like my PC for gaming primarily. If it can do that I'd assume it can do most other things. ;)

CASE: Coolermaster HAF 932 (R1900) (Take 2)
PSU: Corsair HX650W (R1328.19) (Prophecy)
CPU: Intel i5-750 (R2050.29) (Prophecy)
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P (R2554) (Take 2)
RAM: Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C7 2 x 2GB (R1526) (Take 2)
GRAPHICS: Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB (R1149) (Take 2)
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB SATA2 7200rpm (R1000.79) (Prophecy)

Any way of getting that under R10,000 without buying directly from a distributor?

Case:

Seems quite costly to me, but I'd like something with a lot of room. Doesn't need all the fancy water-cooling options though, so suggestions there would be appreciated.

Motherboard:

Bit of a guess - I'm not sure I need something that fancy/expensive.

RAM:

I know 4GB isn't that much these days, but it's a big improvement on my 1GB at present and should do the trick for now. DDR-1600 CL7 - is this decent?

HDD:

I want something faster for my OS/Installations which is why I haven't gone for a HUGE drive. I have a few 2/300GB drives currently for storage, so capacity isn't an issue.

PSU:

Read a few good things on here and the web about it. Should be fine?

I have an LCD, keyboard, mouse, DVD reader/writer so none of that is necessary. With regards to Gigabyte - I've used ASUS previously and had a couple of motherboards die on me, so I'm keen to try something different just for the sake of it. The same applies to trying Intel (haven't used their CPU's since my very first PC way back when...) :D

Thanks in advance for any feedback and replies to my post.

get a coolermaster CM690 II Advanced its the same, if not better than the HAF, it looks nicer, and its large enough for anything u need.
its got place for up to 10 fans...
its got place for two water cooling radiators...
its got place for any size graphics card available...
its got an all black interior (awsum) ....

and many other things....
oh and it will save u R1000 it only costs R920

The ATI HD5970s won't fit. The box is just too short (11.96") for these cards.

even if it cant, he is buying a tiny 4850...
its still a very nice way to save R1000!

and i dont see any suggestions from u?

He was just pointing out a problem with the box. To me the OP is happy with spending 2k on a box so naturally you would recommend the best box for his bucks :D

My point was not to "dis" your comment...
For future proofing the box may not be ideal for larger cards if he decides to upgrade later. You probably can if you mod the case.
He's original decision for a box is the HAF 932 which a full tower and compared to the CM690 II Advanced which is mid-tower. So my guess is his decision to future proof.
But if he decides not to then I agree with you 100%. The CM690 II Advanced is one of the best cases around and for that price it's definitely a good buy. I would also suggest that he drops the 932 and get this IF he won't be upgrading to gfx cards greater than HD5870s.

I would save on the chassis and spend the money on a SSD, you could probably get a decent 80GB SSD for around R2500. Link
Unless you need more space than that of course.

sybaritic has it waaaaay cheaper

CASE: Coolermaster HAF 932 (R1700) sybaritic
PSU: Corsair HX650W (R1282)
CPU: Intel i5-750 (R2006)
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P (R2,507.00)
RAM: Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C7 2 x 2GB (R1,504.00)
GRAPHICS: Club 3D CGAX-4852I Radeon HD4850 R1153
HDD: donno but thers a seagate 1TB for R600

there you go

Man I personally wouldn't buy those HAFs.. Sure space an cooling is excellent, but damn they dog ugly and as some one said: They look like a Hummer driven into a wall..
As for everything else. Very nice parts will serve you well.
Just want to know why you getting a 4850 when you going all new mid-high end parts
Rather get a gtx 460 or 5850 if you using your pc primarily for gaming..
You can easily drop 900 off your mobo and case and put that towards a 460. You'll be a lot happier when gaming! rather get a R1500 ish mobo and an awesome card.

Have a look at this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/229967-Your-Favorite-Online-PC-Shopping-sites and please do shop around. You can save big!

Exactly. You're spending almost R2k on a case and R1300 on a PSU and you're only getting a 4850 - you need to get your priorities straight man!

You should also go with amd, would save you a grand or so.

lol he can also save about R1500 by going a celeron. But the 1050t and 965 are similarly priced with similar performance to that of the i5 750. And you can get just as good an Intel mobo for the same price as an AMD one. There really is not much to separate them. The i5 is an awesome performer!

Ok...
get the CM 690 II.
PSU is great
CPU/mobo is fine, could get a cheaper mobo (R2000)
RAM is fine
GPU is NOT fine - get a 5850 at least if you want to game. Can also get a GTX460 if you want though its a bit slower than the 5850 (but cheaper as well so it gives the same value). Cant believe everyone missed this
HDD is fine, do not get a SSD, it will be a waste of cash if you are only going to game on your machine.

You sound like an intel fanboy to me, you can get a damn nice amd mobo for about 1.2k. The cpu is slightly cheaper as well. As you say there is not much to separate them so why on earth would someone spend a grand more for similar performance? The mind boggles.

Are you saying the amd 965 is like a celeron compared to the i5 750?

No celeron != 965. Was leaning to the fact that you can save R1000 easy by going crappier parts. If you say save a R1000 Point him to wards a CPU +mobo that infact does and gives him the same performance as his current selection
I assume he want a fairly high end mobo and the difference between amd and intel higher end mobos isn't that large price wise.

And I still say get a better card for sure!

I would say rather spend R2500 on a good SSD than all the money you're spending on a case + PSU. It's really not a waste of money, ever.

On the OPs budget it doesnt make sense - a SSD will give zero more fps, while a good GPU will make a world of difference. You'll be able to load games/levels fast, and then watch a slideshow if you go for a SSD before you go for a good GPU
