Bumping up line speeds.

Darn dude, you should go and do a masters in BA Language Studies...
Either that, or you must've been VERY bored when you decided to look up the definition of a rhethorical question:D :D :D

Don't have the brain power for option one.

I'll go with number two.

The line speeds will be upgraded as follows (a Willie Pelser from Telkom told me so)...

384->512 , 512->1024 , 1024->4096 (In other words, those of you with a 4Mbit connection will receive absolutely NO upgrade, nor price reduction..)
Oh, and the prices will remain the same....

This all is scheduled to happen in August (but knowing Telkom, it'll be August 2010 if we're lucky:mad: )

August! When the rest of the world will be at 100Mbps! :o > :( > >

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed to make a statement or initiate introspection rather than for the purpose of getting an answer.

A rhetorical question seeks to encourage reflection within the listener as to what the answer to the question (at least, the answer implied by the questioner) must be. When a speaker declaims, "I am not particularly happy with the whole situation. Are you?", no formal answer is expected.

The above mentioned rhetorical question is one of the best examples I have ever come across!

From Wikipedia

Yikes!

The point is, as mentioned earlier, that Telkom are doing all of this without any cost to them, and will almost certainly make MORE money with people using up their caps faster.

If you got a 1Mb line recently, then you will have had 4Mb all along and will receive neither an increase in speed nor any kind of upgrade.

I am not particularly happy with the whole situation. Are you?

Well you don't use your cap up much faster with a faster line. Its just that whatever you do gets done quicker, you aren't going to load more web pages just because you can load them faster, or download any more while you know you have the same cap.

I still don't really see it as a problem. You are now getting 4mb for what you would have paid for 1mb before. Everyone else gets a "real" upgrade that they never had before, but you could just say that the 1mb users got upgraded earlier. It doesn't have much to do with the whole situation, that no one is happy with :(

ADSL upgrade from 384 to 512

I requested this upgrade and Telkom says it was done already.
Is there any way I can TEST if the change has been done (besides checking the bill)? Browsing or downlading files does not give me a visible difference.

Thanks
:)

mmmmmm

Vista

What I would have loved to see in M$ Vista is a check on line speed.
If less than 24 meg then cannot connect to internet. That should grab governments attention and get them moving :-)

People want affordable internet, not line speed upgrades.

And of course you use your cap faster with a faster line.
