A friend of mine in UK claims that he burned a 4 hour video in a very short time from a SSD. Are they so much quicker than a conventional HDD?

It will all be a little faster thanks to the speed of the SSD but yea, whatever the optic part is will be the biggest bottleneck.
I did a windows install for the first time on a SSD the other day:
From boot up to fully installed about 12 minutes (SSD)
HDD about 30 - 45 minutes
Start up:
SSD less than a minute
HDD about 2 minutes.
Windows 8.1 boot time with HDD. ~12 seconds (~5 seconds BIOS)
Fark me. will then be instant on a SSD?
Just kidding. There is a huge difference in speed. Well for me anyway. But my HDD's are very old. They on their last legs as it is.
