Buy a new entry level DSLR

Hello all

I am looking for a new DSLR (my Nikon D60 was stolen) in the price range of R3500-R5500.

I am looking for a Nikon as I already have a 55-200 lens.

My thoughts are:

D3100
D3200
D3000
D5000
D5100

Anyone know which second hand cameras (Nikon) would slot into this price range?

Check ORMS and bidorbuy, should get the idea what fits in your price range from there. There are others, but those are the first that come to mind.

I'd suggest getting the D5100, even if it means you have to save up a bit longer.

And according to the ODP classifieds there is a second hand D5100 that can be picked up for less than a D3100 with the kit lenses (which he already has) so why not get the best camera he can?

For an extra R200 above your R5500 limit, there are 2 bundle offers on the Nikon 5100

Maybe check with either shop what the body only would be.

Devill, you have been shooting for a bit now are you sure you want to go for an entry level camera? Is it just a money thing that is keeping you from upgrading from a d60 or is because you have had your limit going without a camera? I know you have been without a camera for a while now and I am sure it is driving you nuts but if you can hold out do so and upgrade. If you can't then I would go for the d5100. I would leave the d3100, good camera but it would be almost a side step compared to the d60 that you used to have.

If you can get a deal on a d90 then I would seriously look at it. Yes it is a bit old in the tooth but it is still a very, very good camera and will give you a fairly decent learning curve with your photography.

At the moment I will be happy with a D3100, but I think if I could get the D90 for a good price I would prefer that.

I am still a novice so a D3100 should be fine if the D90's price does not fit.
 
Hopefully not hijacking here, but i see there is a good special on a combo deal for the nikon 3200, as well as the Nikon D5100. there is a grand (less) on the D5100. Of the 2 deals, would the 5100 be the better due to potentially higher spec etc, or the 3200 be the better deal due to newer spec, higher megapixels etc?

Those cameras are almost the same except for the sensor and the swivel screen on the D5100. I'd get the D3200, the new sensor is supposed to be amazing and noise isn't as big an issue as some would of thought, despite having so many megapickles on a smallish sensor.
 
i'm also looking at an entry level set. the 3100 and the 18-200/250mm sigma lens looks like a reasonable buy.
