I would love to buy a premium car but a brother of mine had a BMW 325i i think it was a 2007 or 2008 model. The car gave him problems after problems. One day it stoped in the middle of no where and had to be towed home. I think it had computer box problems.It was a very nice car but was very expensive to repair. He sold the car. Now he owns a 2007-2008 polo 1.9tdi he has been with the car since 2013.The car has not had any major problem since he purchased it.

That is another reason i have not even considered looking at those premium cars.

The clio I suggested is hardly a "premium car". It's a darn sight better than the polo, cheaper to buy, cheaper on insurance, and contrary to popular belief, cheap to maintain. Heck, my wife drives one of them.
 
Just putting it out. Top spec Clio 4 for that Polo money. Good deal balance of that (full) maintenance plan left.

Better spec; way more distinctive; LG-developed 7" infotainment system with Satnav yo

If you like Samsung (Korean) you may consider the top spec Kia (Korean) Rio

Someone i know owns a Clio gt-line like that one. She just recently bought it and ive been driving it alot. Its a very nice car to be seen in. But the drive is not that good. You have to push it really hard to get the most out of the little turbo engine. The engine is also very loud it sounds like a diesel. It has alot of features as standard, but some of those things will not even get to be used much.

The clio is nice but i dont think its that much better than the polo.

I mean it makes sense to do a blacklist check, especially if the vehicle isn't financed.

Clio option is decent, generally a great car and probably the best of the bunch considering French cars as a whole. Get an insurance quote on one, I'd be interested to see how it compares to the Polo.

Whatever anyone says, apart from the hijack & theft risk/overboard insurance, Polo's are great cars even the 1.4, you can't go wrong.

Ignore the advice to look for an older higher end car, that's not wise advice for a 1st time car purchase. That advice only works for a certain type of car owner, a type which I'm pretty sure you are not.

I really like the polo. I did look at other cars like the hyundai i20, the kia rio. But i liked the polo more.. Insurance on a recent clio i think will be roughly the same. Someone i know recently bought a clio gt line and she is paying a R1300 premium.

Pretty much.

It all really comes down to what's important to you.

Do you want the flash of something newer (appealing to others) or do you want to live in comfort every day by getting more car for your money etc.

The reality is that if you do your research you can get a great deal, the other reality is that if you don't you can get a lemon but that could happen even with a new or almost new car.

Oh it was just a quick scan for something "Polo like". Ultimately OP needs to figure out what his wants/needs are.

I bought a GTI largely because it was the only Hot hatch available to me at the time that had 4-doors and an automatic. A3 only got S-tronic in the Sportback in 2009 otherwise I might have gone for that instead.

Did he drive it like he stole it?

Thing is though a 325 isn't remotely what you are looking at.

You can get a car that is very similar to the Polo but just premium. The Audi A1 for instance IS a Polo yet it's still worlds apart in specification, but too pricey.

Like I said above you need to do your research before jumping at it. Like my mate with the 118. When we first started looking for him we realised the certain model years were dodgy so looked for one with the next face lift instead.

Or you could play it safe and get the Polo. Ultimately your money and your car. Just remember you will be living with it for a long while.
