Buying a house....

What paperwork/documents did you need to take with/produce?
The lawyers sent all the necessary documents, it was a letter they send to say it's been transferred. I honestly can't remember now as it was over a year ago. But I went to Roodepoorts and was quite quick.

We did it ourselves, it wasn't too difficult nor did it take too long.
Yup exactly, the lawyers seem to feed off that it will take ages. Yet I took an entire day off for nothing, got to spend the rest of the time relaxing.

Thanks, they said they'll be emailing it to me today, seems like they forgot.

Yup they do send it all, there is a deposit you have to pay at the muncipality as well.

Thanks.Already living here don't wanna get cut or something because I'm not getting bills yet.
Technically the previous owner paid a deposit too, this should cover a few months.

Do you have to go to the walk-in centre closest to the property in question? If not, does anyone have any tips as to which walk-in centre is the quickest?

So you can do an entire bond process without stepping foot in a bank branch, but to link the home loan account to internet banking... That'll be 1hr45m of your Saturday morning please.

Bought a house almost 6 years ago and live in it. Not only me but my parents are living with me.

So instead of paying someone elses house for them, I am paying my own home and living in it.
In a few years I wont have to pay that much for living expenses.

Which bank was that? FNB had it loaded the moment I got the account?

This - Parents live in the Flatlet. Meaning there is always someone home, as we tend to plan our holidays in such a way that there is always someone looking after the Dogs etc.

why pay off someone else's home when in 15 years time, I can live literately debt free. No debt, no bond, nada - cash then becomes king

That was exactly my experience with FNB a week ago lol which bank are you with?

ABSA, apparently as it's a joint bond account linking it to internet banking becomes a FICA process with all the joys that entails.

Pointing out the absurdity of having to provide a proof of residence while dealing with a home loan account didn't go down too well with the consultant either.

Yeah I did the same thing with Standard Bank when they had my first homeloan. They are like we need to have proof of residence for your FICA for this homeloan. I looked at the consultant like they were dumb. Apparently handing them the document with the ERF number, address and everything from the bank didn't count.

This is also the reason why Nedbank, for the bond account of the house I'm living in, financed by Nedbank, has on it's FICA records the address at which I've rented when I applied for the bond.

It's stupidity of the highest order!

FNB has my old address as well, often the home loan statements will come with my old address on it.

Mine still does

My wife joked the other day when we looked at the bond statement that what if for some reason we don't pay and they go evict the people at the address they have on record
