In another thread I asked about Mac and parallels and reckon it will work for me.

Any advice on buying a Mac in CPT? Dealers, secondhand place etc...

Thank. I should've mentioned that unless it is under R8000 I'm only looking at desktops. And of course needs to be of the kind that can run windows.

Will be tough in that price range. check mac shops in sticky above and maybe a few classifieds. Or save another few months to get into the 12-13,000 range.

Mac prices in SA a very high! Unfortunately.

Anywere in durban to get Mac's ?
Me looking for new laptop in January and thinking of spoiling myself with a Mac.

If its a requirement that you run Windows is it also a requirement that you run OSX?
If not then why the Mac?
(sorry if this has been covered I haven't read your other thread ...I think).
Kinda seems like a long way round via a hefty price tag ...just asking cos R8k (maybe a smidgen more if you can) will get you a fairly decent new laptop.

Stupid Macs are the only things that run GarageBand and I have to have GarageBand!

Why?
Cubase SX3 is an audio processing platform that performs perfectly with PC, its my app of choice for audio from recording to MIDI to arrangement it covers the lot.

I use it wiht a 24bit audio interface and a set of KRK Rokit5 monitors and I have no complaints!

Cubase is only one of many good DAP apps for Windows, Ableton; Sound Forge amongst others all spring to mind ...I don't know this Garageband (sounds like a Mickey Mouse affair to me quite frankly) but at the risk of being flamed I can tell you that theres nothing that you can do on a Mac that cannot be done on a PC.

Basically: from what I can tell you don't need a Mac dude.

This reminds me of the days when Apple tried to punt a line that you need a Mac to make podcasts ...shameless I tell you, utterly shameless.

I don't recall apple ever making any claim to that effect.

Of course they would never make a claim to that effect - THAT would be a court case against them that would stand up!
What they did do was insinuate it in a subtle way that could easily fool ...well ...the foolish.

I clearly remember thinking to myself when I first heard drips and drabs about this Garageband: "Geez ...the way they put that makes it sound as if a podcast can only be made on a Mac with this software."
And lets face it: most of the Mac herd are not technically proficient enough to question that. I know many who do not fall into that category don't get me wrong but its devious advertising and it flies in the face of the well-to-do, free spirited, creative image that they try to project (and do distressingly well).

So it goes from shamelessly punting to subtly insinuating? Make up your mind already before the rhetoric totally blinds me. ;)

Quell my curiosity - Have you ever even used a mac?

What do you base these opinions on? Like bwana asked: have you actually ever even used a mac.

You come off as a totally clueless fanboy nutjub.

There's an Apple shop at the Waterfront. Near Mug and Bean.

U can maybe get a Mac mini and use your current monitor and a few other pc accessories.

Or shop online.

I see I have hit a nerve, not so hard with defensive Mac dudes ;)

You're right bwana: I'll cut out the rhetoric ...about their rhetoric, what advertising people fall for is their business.

Incidentally: I have used plenty Macs, my gf uses a Macbook Pro which I have a fair amount of exposure to as any guy whose girlfriend has a computer will attest to ;) and I still have a dated G4 Powerbook (from like you know 'before' when Steve said Intel chips sucked but now they don't suck ...cos Steve said).
And no, my experience hasn't been all bad, I actually think that most of the operating systems available nowadays have lots to offer and design wise you'd be a damn fool to try and knock Apple.
What sticks in my throat is the Apple marketing spiel that everyone thinks is 'such amazing marketing'. I hate the way that Apple degrades the images of people to sell their stuff, its wrong.

@icyrus:for someone with nearly 3000 posts its strange that you would resort (in your 1st response no less) to a personal insult. I'd expect much more restraint from a seasoned poster such as yourself.
BTW: what would I be a fanboy 'nutjub' of? ...would I fall into some new 'Not Mac' fanboy category or something?

I guess its is an occupational hazard with so many offensive PC users ;)

Your gripe seems to be with Apple's marketing which has little bearing on their hardware/software. Since you omitting the rhetoric seems an implausible expectation I'll leave it to someone else to give you change for your 2¢.

Also avoid C3 in Cresta ... after my MBP battery incident I won't go there again
