Buying a phone from Amazon

Hi. I just wanted to find out if anyone has bought a phone from Amazon.com recently and what their experience was. Looking at a phone that is about R700 cheaper on Amazon, even after adding in import fees, and shipping and handling.

So has anyone bought a phone? Did you have any issues with shipping? I've been reading on the forums here but haven't seen anything about phones, just other items. I know it's best to get an order fulfilled from Amazon for best delivery. Has anyone had an issue with the import fees turning out to be more than what Amazon was charging?

Aramex global shopper, I would use that, for importing, you have to pay to register 1st though..
 
Nothing wrong with using Amazon to ship as long as it’s shipped by Amazon. Amazon generally refund if items aren’t delivered if you’re concerned about that. Regarding import fees - they’re generally accurate or in excess of what is required - they will refund you a couple months later if the actual duties paid were less than what was charged charged.

No need for this if fulfillment is via Amazon as they utilize Aramex for their cheaper/slower delivery options to SA and UPS/Fedex/DHL for the fastest/most expensive option.
 
careful on aramex though, lots of phones being stolen through them.
I've seen the same comment in the gearbest thread.
Surely Aramex is a company, and once aware of the theft, would/should sort that nonsense out quickly?
Or is it a persistent problem with them?

Never had problems with Aramex - in saying that recently there have been some very vocal people who’ve had uninsured packages lost enroute using Aramex. This isn’t an issue with Amazon via Aramex or Other as they will reship or refund if the item is lost in transit.
