I've been out of the game for years, and I can't even remember what my old racket's brand was. What do I buy? And how does the sizes work?

Go to Makro and get yourself a graphite racket - Prince for around R 300 and a great Dunlop racker for R 700 - R 800. The aluminium rackets are just not nice to play with - the more modern rackets actually help novices more then professional players- bigger sweet spot, more power and the like...

It all depends on your skill level. While Makro is also good, Sportmans Warehouse have a good selection too - a little pricier though.

The decent brands to look out for are Head, Prince, Dunlop, Wilson and Yonex. Sportsmans is good because you can use the racquet in the shop before buying. So you can test them out and decide which feels the most comfortable. You need to determine if you want a larger head-size, your string tension, focussed power spot or forgiving power spot. The carbon composite racquets are also quite nice too. They are graphite-carbon composite racquets.

But in my opinion, once you've decided on your preferred shape and effectiveness, the brands are all much the same...

Dunlop's rackets last forever and a day. I would recommend Sportman's Warehouse as the first point of call.

I've got a Wilson, plays really well. My squash racket is also wilson.

I'll vouch for that as well. Wilson are very good. I prefer Prince though - my squash racquet is a Prince too - that way whenever I play I get to sing "Can't you see - you're the most beautiful ball in the world" :D

We should set up a mybb tennis/squash match. GoodLarf - we could settle our philosophical differences on the tennis court then...:D

Had a similiar problem when I made a "comeback" after about 6 years....couldn't remember the tension I had the racquets strung previously....bloody embarrassing :D As far as brands go...Head, Prince, etc. I second SportsmansWarehouse as a first (and only) stop, and you have to get the "feel" for that racquet.

Cool. I'll should start to get fit then. :D

The final grip size is very important - too small or too big and you will get tennis elbow.

For tennis you can not go wrong with Prince, Dunlop, Wilson and other prominent brand names. I also found (with squash) that Dunlop rackets are tough. I am however currently using a Prince...very nice squash racket.

I'm using the triple threat rebel racquet - I find it's not very forgiving but it's a great racquet once you get used to it. It forces you to get better...:D

I bought two Wilson racquets when I started playing recently. I highly recommend going to Sportsman's Warehouse and getting a decent racquet. Wilson, Head, Prince and Babolat are the ones that most players use...
