Buying a UPS

Yes, it is 24V and you need two deep cycle batteries to achieve this.

Someone in another thread has said it takes 10 hours to charge his 2 x 100Ah batteries from 50 to 100%.
Not shabby at all.

I am hooking up my two 102Ah batteries to my RCT tomorrow when it arrives.

If I get another battery, must it also have 160ah and in the same condition of does the size and condition not matter, meaning older and newer one.

Frontosa just pushed the price of the APC back up pro 1500 from R3400 to R4200. I left it too late.

The batteries should be same capacity.
I would imagine you could have problems with one a lot older then the other, but one of the boffins here will have to clarify.

I have 2 x 70Ah batteries but I was having issues with them on this loan ups from my electrician, so went and purchased 2 x 102Ah Ellies batteries on promotion at Makro. These are waiting for the arrival of my new ups today.
Turns out the same problem exists with the new batteries, so happy to say it is a dud ups. All my batteries seem to be good.

I found someone with a second hand Intellipower 4 so this will go on the 102Ah batteries in my home office, and the UPS with the 70Ah into the house for wifi and bedroom TV.

Do you guys connect the deep cycle batteries with the existing batteries via 2 cables with terminals or do you diconnect the existing ones at hook the deep cycles ones on only.

Where in cpt can i get 2x deep cycle ones for cheap. i am also waiting on my buddy to get another 160Ah battery then i will be sorted.

I have just hooked up my new SOHO1000 800W inverter.
On the front there is a switch to toggle between UPS and Inverter. What is this for? What would this unit do in either mode?

The only thing I can think of is this:
Energy saving function with UPS green mode

Switching to that mode during a power failure will probably cause it to switch off the charging part to save some power. You could probably make sure with a few tests, or phone the supplier.

Response I got from the supplier RE UPS and Inverter Mode.

I never use inverter mode, this is a power saving mode, which only switches over when there is no mains current, whereas UPS switches whenever the mains drops below or over safe usable current (protecting your equipment and ensuring your appliances remain running during switch-over). You might save about 2 rand a month in inverter mode.

Will keep it in UPS mode then.
