I was looking at one of these BR900GIs, but couldn't justify the cost for my needs.
Went with the RCT 2000VA Line Interactive. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/622463-RCT-Line-Interactive-UPS-Quality/page2
I'd be interested to know the battery setup in the APC? Anyone know? http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR900GI
The RCT has 2x 12V 9Ah batteries.
Hope someone can assist me with my power needs also
I have 750va UPS that runs my adsl router on its own ,which survives load shedding with power to spare.
Now i want to get a UPS for my gaming laptop and maybe the xbox and tv.
Laptop power supply is rated at 150watts.
Tv is a samsung 32 inch 5 series FULL HD.
Xbox one uses around 250watts i think.
I want to get this UPS : http://www.takealot.com/mecer-2000va-line-interactive-ups/PLID34152441
How long will I able to run my laptop at full load ? ( battery on gaming laptop does not last long lol)
And how long will I able to run the xbox one and tv while gaming?
Regards
Got RCT 2000VA UPS 2 days ago... doesn't seem to have a way to plug on an extra battery pack. Am I missing something? I am considering replacing the batteries with larger ones to get more running time If I can't connect an extra battery pack.
I think I am finally sorted with my UPS woes.
Last night I pulled the trigger on an RCT 2000VA Line Interactive UPS from Takealot. They said this morning it is out for delivery already, so I may even get it today. http://www.takealot.com/rct-2000va-line-interactive-ups/PLID32714413
I also enquired about an inverter at some battery shop at Greenstone. They said they would get back to me - and they did this AM.
1000W 24V inverter with a 5A charger. R2,200. Supplier only has 3 left in the country, so I decided to get it even though I just purchased the UPS. Going to pay for it just now, and can collect it tomorrow. http://www.powermaster.com.tw/PM-A-1000AH.htm
Inverter can go on the 2 x 102Ah for my server rack, dev PC and outside lighting.
UPS can go in the house for inside wifi and lights. Will probably hook up the 2 x 70Ah to it, then can also run the bedroom TV (other side of the wall to where it will live).
So far I have escaped load shedding this week, but we start to fall within the normal run of the mill schedule from tomorrow afternoon - so just in time.
EDIT : Scrap that. Went to pay and the freaking things does not include a charger - after I asked them to source one with a charger.
Hopeully this RCT works out well. Will just get more of those then.
Please check recent posts in thread, someone has already replaced the stock 2x 12v 9AH batteries with 2x R1,500 deep cycle batteries. This is probably what you're interested in. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/622463-RCT-Line-Interactive-UPS-Quality
Please also comment if yours gives/gave off an electrical smell after being first plugged in for the first few hours/days?
Spanks tiger.
Did a quick trawl but didn't see those posts. Will open my eyes a bit wider and read again.
No smell on my unit. Works like a charm... only I haven't been load shed since I bought it. Had to test it by unplugging it.
I found it a little annoying that they provided no cable for the AC connection yet two other kettle plug cables (female one end, male the other). Just sliced one of the ends off a cable they provided and added my own 3 prong plug.
The first inverter is the same one I was going to buy. I pulled out because it does not include charging. How much are they asking for it.Hi Mike
I just bought the very same ups. I can buy this inverter, but not sure if it will work or not see pics

The second modem I don't know.
The home made one, I don't have a clue![]()
I just googled the model number, and Ye - it is the charger. R1.5k is a steal. I nearly paid R2.3k odd just for the inverter today.Hi Mike
The 2nd one is the charging unit. I can get it for R1500 for both. The guy had it for a year. You think it's worth it.

If you don't take it, give him my number pleaseand if you decide you don't want it after a while, PM me

Yes, it is 24V and you need two deep cycle batteries to achieve this.I believe the RCT is 24v, somyou need another of those batteries. The problem is they will take days to recharce on the RCT, as the charger is not big enough for bigger batteries.
