Something wrong with that site

Have a look here, maybe you could be tempted by a 710...

I buy alot from them.

But it's not affordable to buy servers in SA at least I have not come accros ones yet.

Thus I was looking at ebay as I'm sure there is an abundance of top end refurbished serves available I mean a server Google or Facebook or the likes chucks away would still be worth gold too me.

I assume that is why they are so cheap on ebay?

Why would it be worth so much to you? In a data center where the best performance/area is absolutely critical, for the average home user it's not a major factor. Grab two eight core processors (around R 2,500 each on eBay), a dual LGA2011 motherboard (as little as R 1,500 on eBay) and 32 GB DDR3 ECC RAM (R 1,500 on eBay), a 500w PSU with dual EPS connectors and a second hand Corsair 800D locally to house it all and you're at around R 10,000 all in for better price/performance than most of the 1U/2U servers you could import from eBay.

Alternatively, the high clock speed of a 6700K and IPC improvements (2-3 generations worth) means you will get similar performance from one of them as two 1.6 GHz 8 core Xeons.

#1 Doesn't matter why it is, fact is it is.

#2 I'm not your average home user :)

#3 I have 32Gb DDR4 in my home PC

I am eyeing that 192Gb DDR3 machine, I might need to sit and make the sums if I can ask my family in the US to store it then they can bring it with them or ship it.

If I buy it "for them"

and they ship it to me do I still have to pay taxes? doubt it right since it will be personal belongings?

I do like that Corsair 800D case I think I am going to use that for my file server.

Currently have 3 x Haf X machines but it's getting to big now.

1. It does matter, as the reason will dictate the alternatives.

2. So space is worth a several hundred percent price premium upfront?

3. And I have 48 GB - refer to point 1.

xperien.co.za is perfect I am going to give them a call Monday morning their prices are better than Ebay!

The last servers I got which I use at home are from Afrihost

Lucky!!

That is what I'm looking for, bigger companies throwing out their servers I want to collect those.

I use it to build networks for rural schools and set up networking workshops etc in these areas.

I'm a very big believer in education.
