Buying Servers from Ebay

Put it in your Garage. Run a Cat 5E cable or 3, and you will probably be sorted out.

Nah I'm sensitive enough even that would bother me.

Beyond the fact that I spend a bit of time in my garage.

But my Microserver is in a kitchen cupboard and that's fine while the doors are closed.

That is something I want to kick myself about - I remember when Esquire started those HP Microserver specials it was 1999 for the thing at the time I wasn't interested - oh how I regret that day.

I love those little small buggers now.

Just out of interest, have any of you purchased from Universe direct before?

I have, they are also good.

PS for Thor. I would put Universe Direct above Africa PC. Mostly due to customer service.

1. It does matter, as the reason will dictate the alternatives.

2. So space is worth a several hundred percent price premium upfront?

3. And I have 48 GB - refer to point 1.

Again I refer back to this - I'm confident you can build something more powerful AND cheaper than a prebuilt.

Or do you just want one for the sake of having one?

I want pre-built parts, but I don't really trust it, it's meant for consumer usage not 24/7 load.

And if I buy the sever's exact parts it comes down to the same minus the Warranty of the manufacturer Dells gets and replace is incredible convenient and peace of mind.

But yes for non critical stuff pre-built is the way to go.

We can offer you something like this.

Dell PowerEdge R610 (1U) or R710 (2U)
We have various configurations from Single processor (QC) up to 2 x 6 Core CPUs.
Memory we can max out at 192GB

The Hard drives get a bit pricey, we can supply new Dell Certified drives in either SAS or SATA.
Hardware Raid (Perc H700 mostly)

Depending on all the components and specs we have these starting at around R9999 ex vat
Obviously dual 6 core processors and maxed out memory will change things a bit. Drop us a mail for exact pricing based on your
requirements.
