Buying Servers from Ebay

If you aren't so brand conscious the Supermicro stuff from Pinnacle is pretty good.

SuperMicro is up there with the competition, it is a superbly supported product, brand wise it is in the top tiers. Enterprise is all about the service levels, it is also a regional dilemma thanks to service partners. Thor do not need service levels as he will manage the maintenance in house leaving SuperMicro as a viable option, no need to hug a Dell or HP, and need to ensure that the hardware is compatible with his needs.

SuperMicro is perfect I had the SuperServer 6015C-UB and it didn't give any hassles.

Also looking for a server like this (R710) to run at home. One big server should be better than many smaller servers.

May I ask, what do you guys use such beefy servers for at home?

I already run a network monitoring app, Domain controller, Mail server, Git server and Jenkins server over two Gen 8 Micro servers. I've hit the limit, as everything is starting to feel slow. I also run PFsense on a physical machine, as a VM won't cut it here. Having more resources available would be awesome, as I'm planning to set up a VPN into my network still, as well as joining DN42, and hosting a CS:GO server.

There is a whack ton more I'd like to do, but I'll refrain from doing for now, as resources will never be enough.

Have not come accross a place that sells these refurbished. I am not looking at buying new that would be way to above my price range.

Aah okay.

Personally I couldn't handle the fan noise in my house.

Even the little Microserver only barely cuts it.

Does Pinnacle stock SuperMicro?

I think I am just going to look into them I mean it was a sweet machine and I am sure other will agree.

The search begins

Well if/when you find one and want to get rid of the Gen8 let me know.

Do you guys think I should make a thread - Refurbished Computer Suppliers?

I am uncovering a lot of potential places might help others in the future.
