Bye bye BIS (with BlackBerry 10)

But yes I'm sure you will be quite happy now that OS10 will balance that issue out for you since it uses normal data so no more slow BIS on Vodacom and MTN for you.
BIS is the main draw card for Blackberry. Nobody in their right mind would argue that OS10 is better than Android. Basing the decision of purchasing a phone based on an IM alone is simply retarded, there's no other way to put it.

LOL, even Nokia has a head start on BB10 when it comes to their Windows Phones.

Yeah, the BB emotions look so 16 colour.
They look much neater and classier, whatsapp icons look cheap.Dirt cheap.

Guess its to keep them compatible with the screens in BB devices, none of them come close to AMOLED units :D
whatsapp is also on BB with the same emoticons so insult/troll fail :D (damn,it would have been nice to have that bb rolling with laughter emoticon now!)

The reason they run on EDGE like speeds is because of BIS and they way the cell networks handle BB data.

Wrong, (as you would say). They don't run on edge speeds on Cell C or 8ta.Don't blame BIS for your networks inadequacies.

Actually nobody in their right mind would make the claim that you just made without having tried both first extensively so I don't know yet because I dont have a z10 yet,but hey its seems you have extensive experience with BB10 since you have judged it already.

Lol no its not, some people value social network circles more than whatever we find nice about android or ios or whatever platform we love. Not everyone is a tech geek like us on MYBB,believing otherwise is indeed retarded.

You know falcon, the thing I like most about your posts is the nostalgia it leaves me with. Reminds me of myself a few years ago when I still tried to convince the world (but mainly myself) that Symbian was is and always will be the best...

Ive used windows phone 8 (920 for about two weeks) and it did not allow me to use OPERA mini, swype and it had one or two other limitations which lead me to get rid of it.Unless you have used bb10 already for a few weeks you are not in any position to be making those calls.

If BB10 allows me to use a browser of my choice then they would have already leapfrogged windows 8 in my opinion,I mean even the most locked down os i.e IOS lets you choose your own browser for crying out loud.

Thats where xda-developers comes in handy. Like cough nokia maps on a samsung omnia 7 cough. :D

EDIT: Windows Phone 7.8 Nokia edition runs nice on it. :D

You havent changed, you're now just doing it with android.;)

I get accused of being an android fanboy by isheep and now a bb fanboy by android fanboys lol the truth is I'm not trying to convince anyone of any particular brand being better,I point out the pro's and cons in each because I'm a huge tech fan and have used most of these devices/os's.

I love the z10 and it really does have what I pointed out as its strong points, thats not to say I wont admit the HTC one or xperia z that were just launched are simply superb. To be honest with all this choice around we as consumers are being spoilt for choice and android and ios forced bb to move forward or face extinction.Even windows phone 8 is fantastic it just needs some kinks ironed out which i'm sure will happen in time.

The market right now is damn exciting to me.:)Two strong rivals with two more strong contenders in the sidelines. They all have their pros and cons.

That wouldn't allow you to install opera mini or swype right?Apparently its because microsoft locked down those two features for app developers.

If the bb10 keyboard isn't to my liking I hope they allow us to load our own keyboards from developers,I'm pretty sure they will allow individual browsers though.

Not sure about Opera mini. i did download another browser that cached the web pages I visited in the past, that worked wonders when you revisit them. Regarding swype not sure. xda merely supplies custom rom's that allows you to install downloaded software, run apps on x phone not ment for it, phone is rooted etc....

Yeah I tried in vain for months to get them installed on my omnia 7 but no luck from xda developers or anywhere else i looked.

iOS: Whatsapp, iMessage
Android: Whatsapp
WP7/8: Whatsapp
BB7: Whatsapp, BBM
BB10: Whatsapp, BBM

Could we not then compare BB10 to iOS. Its a platform with its fans that has its own IM yet can still access Whatsapp. The Z10 is a nice device and as a BB user I am looking forward to using it as my main device. I currently use a BB Torch 9810 (solely for IMs) and a Lumia 700 (as my main phone (500meg data bundle pm)). When my Z10 arrives I will be using it as my only device because it has a decent processor, nice specs overall and I am no longer forced to have BIS activated in order to use BBM. How much data could BBM possibly use? This is a blessing for me. With my LG Optimus Black I am limited to Whatsapp and those friends that use it but with the Z10 I have my Whatsapp friends and my BBM friends.

Not long before BBM on all platforms is out... Sure of that. Nothing standing in their way of doing that... :)

reading the comments about the emoticons:
i can almost not make out what my emoticons look like on my 9630 or 9360 (i forget what they gave us). the smileys are 2x2pixels almost.

this is a 3g enabled dingleberry, but it's stuck on edge 90% of the time. bis is so slow as well. i use it purely to phone and bbm coworkers. if i want to go on the web, i use my sgs2. i'd much rather pay for data than use unlimited data that piddles through from the web.

also, will the blackberry data usage still be compressed? if not, then you people are being robbed with that 200mb limit...

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but someone asked me this question but I couldn't answer.

On the older BB's with the BIS plan, does all the networks have the unlimited policy(I know MTN-200mb)?

Does this mean, photo uploads to skydrive is covered under the BIS portion? So it's free and will not require extra data?

Not all of them, and from what I understand they are phasing it out and you can't get it on prepaid.

Also Skydrive might be excluded from BIS, would have to check.

So basically you would incurr an out of bundle data cost if you used an app like skydrive/google drive/drop box?

The phone is question is on a contract, so they already have BIS.
