Well, I just sent off my iBurst cancellation form.

Going to be getting a 4mb ADSL line and am going with WebAfrica for the ISP.

Finally got sick and tired of poor speeds, even after changing settings and getting an external antenna.

Apart from the poor speeds I actually don't have any real complaints about iBurst, but shall have to see if the accounts deptartment tries to get cute with my account.

So besides, having my bank block/cancel the debit/stop order at the end of December, any things to watch out for upon cancellation?

Yes, be careful not to hit someone with the modem and antenna when throwing it out the window :D

Oh, don't worry I have "special" plans for the modem.

Just hope the neighbours don't mind a 3am bonfire and chanting. :D

Get a written confirmation from them that you owe them nothing. Verbal is not good enough, it must be written.

Then - just watch your bank account - and run ASAP to the nearest bank if something dodgy have gone off...

Hehe...that was exactly what I was thinking!! Haha...

*I gave my iBurst modem to my best friend, otherwise it would've been bonfire night for my iburst modem as well. :)

And I am guessing he is now an ex-friend? :D

hehe...no, he is just a very unlucky guy!

He stays 4 kilometres down the road from me, I get full Vodacom HSDPA, while he can't get a signal at all. The only signal he can get? Yep, you guessed it, iburst.

Not even ADSL...

Well the ADSL line has been activated.

Now just to get the router and all the necessary goodies.

Pretty quick if I do say so myself.

@ebe9, so when you canceled iburst did everything go smoothly or did they try to pull the normal "you owe us money for unpaid months".

I'm still getting an invoice from iBurst, since July 2007 - they claim i owe them money. I CLEARLY told the accounts dept to deduct any money I owe them on the last bill, before I leave. *sigh*

What a useless company.

@kingrob, so far I've been lucky and iburst have not been bothering me or tried to deduct any cash from my bank account, but I still check daily just in case they try to slip in a debit.

a contract with iBurst is a contract for life, eh? Its almost like running away from the mob: you always have to look over your shoulder..

Same here, MrH!

I've been reminding myself constantly to go to my bank and double-check that iburst can't deduct any debit orders from my account anymore, but sadly haven't been to my bank yet.

I'll be saying bye to iBurst at the end of December. I had a great time downloading 30GB every month but playing online poker has been a bit sh1tty the past 3 months. I won't forget about the mandatory stop order when cancelling an iBurst account :)

No issues as far as I could see.

Phoned them up and spoke to Tasleem in their retentions department and told them why I was cancelling (poor connection even after going directional antennae route).

Then sent my cancellation form through (scanned and emailed). It was then assigned to Taryn in the cancellation department who said that my final payment would be for the month of December taking place on the 25th of November.

I am still going to be heading into my bank at some point in the near future to cancel the stop/debit order for them, just to be on the safe side.

I recon I will also try giving them a call and asking that my details are removed from their system. ;) (will see if I can get one right)

Haha...
I find it so funny that Iburst operates like that..
We have to be afraid and constantly run to our bank accounts to check if they have double billed us, or are still billing us when we dont recieve a service anymore..

What that other guy said actually made me laugh out loud - 'check if they slip in a debit'

Sneaky sneaky iburst..

Just my 2c, I have sent iburst death threats before.. I am an online poker player and they just love to disconnect me in a big hand...

Its so strange how i never move my modem, always have a 100% signal yet my download speeds range from 5kbps - 100kbps...

Damn you iburst. Damn you to hell.

If only I could get adsl :(
