hi guys

so after some thought I've decided to give the media player the boot... She has served me very well, but Im looking for a more powerful solution.

I have found this in XMBC. Im a bit of a noob on XMBC, but Im trolling their forums to learn the basics. Including a nice 60page PDF which helped a lot!

has anyone done the similar move?

(pm me if you wanna buy my media player)

I'm running 3 off a shared mysql database :)

Pause in one room - resume in another room :)

I'm also starting on the mysql shared DB stuff...

Gonna take awhile to get it right.. but needs to be done.. just for the wow factor for me :)

Been a follower of xbmc since xbox 1 days, very nice fro something that is free.

McGuywer, just remember if you haven't bought the Microserver yet you will need a sound card as it doesn't have one on-board. It will work with the onboard graphics but for HD stuff a good screen card maybe with HDMI out won't be a bad idea. I have been running XBMC for ages now and it is probably the best media center out there. Boxee which is based on XBMC is a close second I think.

Thanx.

I've done exactly the same thing - booting my WD Live Media Player.
Got myself a HP Micro Server the weekend - busy setting everything up.

this confuses me...

I thought if you get a decent pci-x gfx card its got the sound ship on-board??

I have 3 media players and a Synology NAS. I would have canned the whole media player thing had it not been for my HDI Dune D1. It plays absolutely everything and with Zappiti and Yadis installed the interface looks as good as xbmc. My mede8er is just so stupid and my popcorn hour is frustrating. Before anyone moves away from media players give the Dune a try because it is better than running xbmc and far superior to the competition.
