Bye Windows 7 RC, hello Windows XP SP3

I was all in love with win7 until I got an nvidia card.... The drivers are wrecked. Card works but drivers crash. Im going to roll back to vista if this doesn't work.

nVidia now has drivers specifically for Windows 7. Have you tried them yet?

I downloaded the most up to date driver there is. Googling it a bit it seems like i'm not the only one with this problem.

Mind you if you have a link to another driver i'll give it a shot. I'm pretty desperate lol.

Did the driver specifically say Windows 7?

What did you download and which card do you have. My 9600gt seems to be working fine.

I'm using the GeForce/ION Driver Release 186.18 driver.

I see the 190.38 beta came out two days ago.

Check the release notes to see if your bug has been fixed.

Somehow the system rolled itself back to the WDDM drivers and they worked! But then I stupidly updated them and it crashes again. But at least I know for sure it's a driver issue because it worked no problem in wddm.

Ok, even my brand spanking new logitech usb headset is having issues. It loses sound in all apps right now. It actually stopped working completely, I had to uninstall the device so it could pick it up again. Windows7 really does not seem to like USB audio devices, what a POS!

I'm so frustrated i feel like putting my fist through my lcd.

I'm not a os basher or evangelist but linux is better than this crap called windows, pity about the games though. Maybe I must try wine again.

Me thinks you live with Murphy, hope you don't get frustrated with Linux then. My set of Microsoft headphone are working without an issue with any OS.

I have used plenty of different USB headphones in Win7... The problem is that when the headphones are plugged in, sometimes Win7 doesn't change them to the default sound device and if you click on the little sound icon in the taskbar, you'll get two volume controls... What I did then was just right click on the speaker icon and click playback devices and then selected my headphones from the list and made it the default sound device and everything worked.

Other than that, Windows 7 is like an infectious virus to whomever I pass by in the way that whoever sees it on my PC suddenly has it the next day or something. In my family it started with me, then my sister, her boyfriend, then my mom... Now my sister's boyfriend's friends have it and on it goes.

I can't wait for the expiration to kick in... good times.

I'm downloading the RTM now in hopes that driver issues will be sorted out. It constantly BSODs on me. Sometimes a driver will work for a couple of hours then blow out again. This is completely intolerable of course, so I'm using onboard graphics until I can get 7600 up and running.

My linux experience to date (Arch Linux) has been a very pleasant one compared to windows but then I have been a linux user for 6yrs now. If only I could play CS:S in WINE I would not be grumbling right now :D

I also considered the possibility that my front USB ports don't supply enough power but this does not make sense as this does not happen in Linux or XP and the OS has zip to do with power on USB ports.

Who knows. Could just be the change from Windows XP/Vista or Linux to Windows 7 that has just irritated your headphones. Maybe your headphones are being rebellious to new technology :p

As to someone who commented on my post about everyone I know getting Win7... I have asked everyone about it and thay all say that a fully legal copy will be purchased before the expiration date. (I'm still sticking with Linux, don't worry about that one :p )
