Hi all

I'm planning to switch ISP's. My network is with Metrofibre and I'm based in Sunninghill.

Anyone have recommendations on C-Fibre and MindTheSpeed (MTS) ? I've read a couple of reviews here but not entirely convinced as of the varying opinions I've seen lately.

I asked both to get in touch with me. So far C-Fibre has called me and done an assessment. MTS though haven't gotten back to me.
Also need some input on the 'free' modems each provide. Not too convinced with the MTS Zyxel brand unit.

Thanks in advance.

MTS also gives you the option to choose another router of your liking, and they subsidize +-R800 of the router price.
Thanks IanM. Are you with MTS? If so, how's their service?
What's important to me is the "24/7 Customer Service" that C-Fibre says they provide.

Not yet, but they're one of my front runners. I'm signing up towards the end of the month.

I've heard from several independent sources that they're happy with what they've been getting.

I also had questions on their router situation, contacted them on FB messenger and they phoned me back the same day, with a very friendly consultant who explained everything very clearly and even made some suggestions to what other affordable routers they would recommend.

why would you not stay with MFN as an ISP, or go with Gigago (An MFN division) if your with another ISP.

There've been a few negative reports about Cell C Fibre in this section, but then MindTheSpeed are very new.

Because MFN is almost double as expensive. Haven't heard of Gigago but will give them a look. Thank you.

Yea I saw. Better the devil with a known track record than one without it?

Found my old modem. But can't find the power cable. Anyone have one of these? Know the power supply requirements by any chance?

That looks like an 844G, but it's a ONT, so only is used by MFN. Gigago gave me a 844E, the ethernet version, works great. 4GE ports and 5G wifi with 4x4 MU MIMO, means it delivers.

Just took it apart. It's an 844G-2. Will research a bit and see whether it's any good. Found it lying around when I bought the house a while ago.

You might want to keep that unless you want to pay for a new installation. IF they can use that ONT to activate then no installation fees.

The ONT remains the property of the cable provider. So try that first before going for a new install. Might save you a few bucks or contract/claw back if you go for free install ISPs

It's over 3 years old I think. So basically paid off. Just need to get it working again if possible.
I've asked the new ISP if they can support me with it.

Well maybe just contact Metrofibre directly with address and ONT number or serial and ask if the line can be activated again or is it gone. If it can be activated again well great it means it's a migration and not a new installation.

If they can't then you probably going to have to pay the installation fee or if you do the free installation ISPs then there is usually a claw back period.

Awesome thank you kindly.

If your going with another ISP, mfn will install another device. They don't support the 844 for open access, then the other ISP will give you a another router,

Funny enough C-Fibre said they can set it up for me. Dunno if the guy is being hungry to sign me up and secure the sale.

Will need to confirm. Thank you.

I was with MFN, and for reasons to complicated to explain I moved to Gigago (MFN open access) and the swapped out my ONT for the 803 and the 844E.
