So finally got a straight answer today after numerous calls, emails and chat sessions. Apparently the reason why my new line can't be installed is because of "Cable technician difficulties",which is what's preventing an appointment sms for me.Has this happened to anyone with a new installation and how long will it take to resolve?

Sometimes it happens that there aren't any spares in the cable that is feeding to your area so a cable tech is needed to work a spare for your line to be installed, the cable techs in numbers are far less than the customer facing techs, it's even worse after the last round of retrenchments, so the ageing infrastructure is just too much for the limited cable techs to deal with in some instances.

If your problem requires a new cable to be laid it might take some time because it will include a contractor to lay the cable first before your installation can be done, if not it might be a couple of days at most.

Well damn, its just a chain of woe with Telkom. Thanks for the answer

I agree. I believe the issue is getting to a point where Telkom will need a miracle to get back on track. I have recently started switching all the clients I can over to my wireless provider as we make most of our income from VOIP and on-site services. However the good to great quality wireless is expensive as hell and the terms on some of their contracts are quite absurd sometimes. Our company offers good priced LTE packages but the largest we can go is 24Gig and it is expensive if you compare it to lines with similar quality and speed.

Personally I find the Telkom LTE useful in our current internet situation in South-Africa. I can pack up my router and go where I want (well within the range of one of there towers) and the contracts are not too expensive. I currently have the 50 + 50GB package and for the most part I am enjoying it.

I have to add it was quite a hassle to actually get to the point to buy the damn thing as the staff at the stores all told me I did not have coverage in my area and because of that they cannot sell me the product??? anyway at the end of the day I used a buddies router to test it and after that info a very reluctant man signed me up.

Many of the technicians are currently on strike.
