Calibrating a laptop screen. Possible?

Surely you biggest concern would be making sure that your printer and your monitor were speaking the same colour? You can fiddle an on screen image until you are happy with it, but if it don't print like that...
I agree - if you're not printing then there really isnt as much point in calibrating.

Does help for seeing the colour correctly though - you can't really criticise someone's pics if your screen has a colour cast.

For that to work everyone's computer needs to be calibrated - to make things worse many people either a) dont use colour profile compliant browsers or b) havent enabled their browser if it is compliant.

Realistically as a photographer I cant expect to control how people see my images unless they're viewing a print or on my monitor.
