Your analogy with Tata is wrong as a vehicle's subsystems (4 wheels, axels, steering system etc as you stated) are functional requirements of a car. A Tata vehicle without a steering system probably wouldn't be a functioning car to begin with.

Let me use your own analogy for you. What Tata's standards would be (you did say Calix has poor standards) is a standard like NCAP, ISOFIX etc.

You seem not to be aware that Calix is enterprise/operator equipment. It isn't designed for a consumer or 'prosumer' user. You want a BMW/Merc and think Calix is a Tata, though you aren't paying for this Tata.

Calix is actually like an Uber vehicle (eg. Toyota Corolla) in being an operator owned device which just delivers a service cost effectively for the network operator and ISP. It doesn't mean that Toyota are poor quality or don't adhere to any standard, it just means the features and quality are defined around that business case.

This doesn't stop you from buying your BMW (TPlink and Netgear) but it is foolish of you to think that TPlink and Netgear are superior brands to Calix. Calix make products for clients/applications that Netgear or TPlink doesn't, with real enterprise standards like MEF2.0 with enterprise standards like Y.1731, RFC2544 etc. Using your car analogy, these enterprise products are like luxury buses that have features, quality of service and scale which BMW (TPlink/Netgear) doesn't even offer.

In none of my posts was I defensive, I was just showing you that you are wrong in your statements of quality and standards and don't understand the way in which the industry works.

Though I do agree with you, Netgear, TPlink and Ubiquity make products Calix might not and fit your above average consumer needs better than the entry level cost effective ONT+router that you probably didn't even pay for (own).

If you know what you're doing, you can get a Mikrotik for routing and switching and then a dedicated AP like Ruckus or Ubiquity for wireless. Though most consumers wouldn't know how to set this up, then a nice GUI based device might be better suited...

This GigaCenter 844G-2 is good ONT and Router it deliver nice wifi signal on both bands 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz the other features are ok but the model 813G its firewall was very week everything goes through but i haven't tried that on this one yet..
it's a good device for someone who has a small house or he does not worry about the wifi coverage or speed drop but for me i wouldn't cheer for it.. i would rather get another ISP to just install their ONT/CPE and i will get my own Asus Lyra triband plug my iMac into the primary node wiredly and try to connect the second node to the TV and DSTV also wired and 3th node free with others boarding wifi all over the house with free 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz because a second 5Ghz is dedicated to speak with each others
 
Calix routers will support a 1Gb/s service on the ethernet ports. As far as Wi-Fi goes the 813G (smaller unit) has 2.4 Ghz 802.11n wifi, the 814 has (larger unit) has 2.4 and 5 Ghz 802.11n/ac 2X2 antenna's , the 844G/E has 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz 802.11n/ac with 4X4 MU MIMO on the 5G radio, the 844 can also be connected to upto 4 X 804 mesh units, when using the 844 with the 804 mesh solution also supports band and node steering for seamless Wi-Fi roaming.

For 804 Mesh device do you have to ask the ISP to get it for you ?!

I just want to know if anyone here experienced or know about the ONT / Router called Calix GigaCenter 844G-2 that MetroFiber supplies to their customers ?

Yep I'm using a Calix 844G-2 from MFN, providing a 50Mbps Internet Link, a SIP ATA [VOIP line with 087 number], and dual-band WiFi AP [2.4GHz 802.11g/n & 5GHz 802.11n/ac] . What specifically are you wanting to understand?

Does this put the Calix 844G-2 into bridge mode?
The documentation/help is a bit thin on this.
My line is not active yet or else I'd test it.

Nope, DMZ is forwarding all incoming traffic to a specific router or device. You essentially will have double NAT.

I was just confused as docs indicates the internal device (wireless_router) will have the SAME IP as the WAN IP and could not workout how this would be achieved.

Most of the Double NAT example I see on the internet have 2 private subnets, whereas this seems to have the SAME IP for one of my devices which is a layer 2 bridge.

Still confused.
