Call for 11 religious holidays

We are having our Mid Winter Solstice Feast (Dinner) on Saturday night. Yes,
I know, it's a couple of days late.

Dude How could you, that was last night.

Ra is gonna be very angry and crops will fail!!!! or did you miss TJ99's post?

The standard public holidays should stay. For the additional ones the guys are requesting they should allow those people who celebrate to take 1 additional day on the respective day.

To be fair, I prefer the Summer holidays and closing of companies during this time. Mostly because of school holidays and the fact that closed companies = less trucks on the main roads between Durban & JHB or Cape Town and JHB.

I guess a counter argument is that if all the companies do not close less people will be on the roads but the fact is that its normally the best time of the year to take your children away on holiday(Weather+ schools closed)

Which is why it works. You go on your extended holiday over the Christmas period. I'm in the office, manning the phones. And I go to Europe for a couple of weeks in July....

Then it will be an issue of "but the Christians have 3 and we only have 1". I'm for removing all 3 and adding it to annual leave"

Scrap all public holidays. All. Even Christmas. And just stipulate the minimum leave that an employer should give. Then people can take it whenever they please.

Just give me 34 days leave. 20+ the 14 existing holidays.

+1000000. Why are you not into politics. We need you.

Why don't they remove all the holidays and add 12 to everyone's leave entitlement. Then you can take it when you want.

Seriously, I'm also one of those forced to take my leave over the year-end, so if all those holidays were removed I'd just never have off any other time off during the year. The obvious solution is to just keep the existing holidays, and for all the religious types to harden up and stop complaining about it. Yes, some holidays have a Christian origin, so what? I'm not religious and I still like spending Christmas, Easter or whenever with my family with no religious aspect to it. It's time off. Getting holidays for every religion that comes along is just impractical. There are literally not enough days in the year to cover everything.

What do you suppose the Christian reaction would be like if they were forced to work or write exams on Christmas or Easter?

Well those fall in school holidays anyway, don't they?

Edit: As for work, many Christians are forced to work on those days anyways as it is.

School holidays were scheduled around these days, not the other way around. Besides most people still work during school holidays, I was referring to those specific days.

i don't think we should have any religious PUBLIC holidays. Ppl can celebrate in their own time whatever they need to celebrate
