I realise there's a thread specifically for performance-related issues, but I want to poll users in the Fourways area specifically.
I've been struggling with a degradation in service over the last month or so. The performance was quite adequate, but it has fallen off dramatically. The biggest issue seems to be the upload speed (around 0.02mbps typical) and ping in excess of 100ms. There are regular periods in the day where it just freezes completely, and disconnects are happening all the time.
I've reported this to 8tasocial, who've been fairly responsive. The problem appears to be in their incident management process. A technician comes out and takes readings, and confirms what I've been reporting. He then sends these stats to Networks for resolution, and that's where things fall apart. Nothing gets done, and 8tasocial have to start the process all over again. Another technician, another report.. you see where this is going?
Now I'm being told that there's nothing they can do to this tower - Networks say it's congestion and we'll have to wait for a temporary tower to be erected at Broadacres.
Frankly I don't think Networks have given this the slightest bit of attention. If this tower is congested then how do I achieve 4mbps download most times of the day (well, except for when the connection is falling over)?
My question to all of you in the Fourways area - what is your experience of 8ta speed in this area? Have you had issues reporting problems? 8ta say that nobody else here seems to have any problems. I'd like to know if that's true.
