Chances are, I am going to be studying Computer Science at Stellenbosch next year. So, I have a few questions for any past/present students there.

I applied to late for res, so I will need alternative accommodation. A few good friends are also going so we have been talking about getting a place together. So what I want to know is: Are there any good websites with Stellenbosch accommodation? And any areas I should look for/ stay away from?

Thanks

You can probably live anywhere. But you might feel out of place if you live in Cloetesville or Kayamandi if you are white. But then again I haven't been there in a while now, and I heard Cloetesville (who has their own police station) has since been one of the safest places in the Western Cape accourding to DieBurger earlier this year.

Places closer to the varsity will cost a lot of money, but I think it would be worth it. I stayed in a res and I never needed a car, walked to night clubs etc. But that was ages ago, heard the night clubs can't serve alcohol after a certain time anymore.

One year I didn't have accommodation (I didn't apply for anything) and I went to the student accommodation department and they arranged everything for me, but I was a senior student by then.

Academia would be the ideal place for you, but it is also a bit pricey. It was about 1.5-2 times more than places that is a bit further away from varsity. From Academia you can also walk anywhere on campus and is straight across the Engineering building where you will have a lot of your classes anyway.

Get some info from the Uni itself for accommodation.

There are a lot of private residences where people have outside flats for students.

Also check the local newspaper, Die Eikestadnuus.

Are you the same Schwartz from the Xbox forums?

So you live in CT but looking for a place closer?
Yip.

Thanks. I will look into that.

I live in Upper Constantia. Traveling would be too long for my liking.

Gumtree, Eikestadnuus of contact one of the many estate agents in Stellenbosch. They all bring out lists this time of year with all the accomodation they have available for next year. In Stellenbosch your contract usually runs from 1 December for 12 months. (Come to think of it, it might be a bit early in the year for those lists though.)

Thanks guys. I will try out Gumtree.
