If the CHEST PAIN is RADIATING (moving) to other parts of the body - goto the hospital.
If the CHEST PAIN feels like a STABBING OR CRUSHING PAIN - goto the hospital.

Please don't sit with it all day and all night and hope it goes away...

Look, If I arrive on scene and the patient is unresponsive (can't talk for themselves) then I'll try my best to find their cellphone or wallet.
Many times though, the cellphone is damaged but the wallet proves to be interesting (names of the patient) but no contact information.
You know what I have seen to work, a 'card' with contact details on.

A family member got sick last weekend.
Two ambulances from different companies pitched.
Company A (1st on scene) didn't have the equipment to deal with the situation.
Company B had the equipment which the Company A personnel used and then administered an injection.
Luckily the two teams worked together to stabilize the patient.
company A then said they will transport the patient to the hospital because they responded first.

There are two hospitals:
Local group of doctors that operate 4km away. No doctors on duty. When a patient arrives, they call your local GP/ specialist who then drives out to attend to you.

Netcare 16km away. Full triage unit and well equipped.

Family insisted on netcare instead of the local hospital.
Ambulance driver says, it's policy to transport to nearest hospital. However they will go to netcare.

My questions are :
Is there a standard that prescribes what equipment ambulances are obligated to have?

Is there a body that issues a form of Licence to a company that wants to provide ambulance services ?

Can the family insist on which hospital they want the patient transported to? Or is it dependent on the ambulance driver?

Edit: the family member has uninterrupted comprehensive medical cover

my take: If you got medical aid or cash, I assume you can choose because you will be footing the bill eitherway
 
On Friday morning , I decided to sign up for uber. I wanted to try out the service. I was amazed to see how easy it was to order a car. And in the app , I could see where the cars where and how long it would take to get to me.

Then on Friday afternoon, a co worker turn very ill at his desk. I called for first aid and requested an ambulance. The ambulance got lost trying to find our office park. It took 60 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.

So here I am wondering , how is it possible that the uber app can determine my location, tell me where a car is, allow me to order one and then tell me how long it will get to me.
And,
It takes an ambulance 60 minutes.

Why can't we put the uber app into the hands of some ambulance drivers?
